Tudor Pelagos - Gen or Rep?

Alright so - when it comes to Tudor reps I’m definitely not well educated on the matter, so I’m just here beseeching the wisdom of people that are.

Long story short - like the idea of blue face blue bezel watch, don’t want a rep Rolex Smurf. Followed the grapevine and saw the Tudor Pelagos. My question is, based on the gens relative cheapness, should I run with that or are there any factories that do really decent reps of the blue Pelagos? That are reliable from a mechanical point of view and are just well put together time pieces. Obviously Tudor doesn’t come under quite the same scrutiny as some other brands, so minor differences from gen aren’t the end of the world. But if it’s something like the AP 15202 that no one can get even remotely right, I’ll just buy a gen. Many thanks!

Whilst I do not own a Pelagos, in general the Tudor reps seem to be of a very high standard. I know there is a very well received rep of this watch from XF factory, which comes with a Miyota movement. That movement is very reliable and sturdy.

Have heard the movement can be on the loud side. Still a better pick than the 2824 you think?

Thanks for your reply!

I would buy a Tudor Pelagos from V6F Factory because they look like gen and you would safe money. Miyota is more reliable but load or you could buy a gen Eta and switch it with the Asian 2824.

I'd definitely stick to a rep for the Pelagos. XF/V6F's Pelagos is a super rep, basically 1:1 externally/visually. In my opinion it's not worth paying an extra £2k or £3k on gen just for slightly better build quality & slightly more reliable movement. The rep is on the "not worth buying in gen" list for a reason :)

There is however a choice to be made on the movement. The newest version of XF's pelagos comes with a Miyota 9015 which people report to be loud. The earlier version which I think TD's can still source (although it may not be advertised on some of their sites), has an A2824. Solves the noisy movement, but I also read that the earlier version has less good lume? Not sure if true but yeah, it's a decision I'll have to make too because I want a Pelagos also.

I do think the Miyota is a more reliable movement on the whole, and the noisy rotor is usually easily solved with correct oiling. It would be the one I would go for.

Yea I'm on he verge of picking up a black pelagos. The new ones with miyota have significantly better lume and the rotor is an easy fix with oilng

I own the gen, it’s amazing. For me, the inhouse movement makes the difference with a gen.

It all depends on the price you can get and if you value owning a couple gen pieces. under 3k for a killer piece with InHouse movement from the R factory is tough to argue.

I just picked up my 2nd gen Tudor (bb S&G) and must say, these gens are a lot of watch for the money compared to others in the 2k-3k range.

I still love my Panerai Frankens, but cant justify 5-6k for a used gen with an ETA movement.
