Since finishing my first build earlier this year (a 16014 Datejust) I've been looking for a new project and, after seeing some parts come up on m2m, have decided to go with a Tudor snowflake.

I'm very much a novice when it comes to building but its great fun and a good excuse to buy new tools. Thanks to HawkZero I was able to pick up a Vietnam 9411 case, dial and bezel plus he was kind enough to also include some snowflake hands and pips. The case did have some issues with a thread tap snapped off inside the case but it was still a great price and pleasure to deal with.
I picked up a retaining ring, crown and tropic 19 crystal (all from Phong) from hanski who I would also highly recommend as a seller with very fast delivery to the UK.

I really struggled to find the right insert with the wide 4 (on 40) I see on 9411 pics (mainly on hqmilton) but in the end decided the tiger concept insert was the closest match so have ordered that. The existing insert is glued into bezel so can anyone recommend a good solvent to remove without damaging the bezel?

On to the build... the case set was cheap mainly because it had thread tap broken off inside the case. I was aware of this before I bought it but it was a good price despite this so figured worth the gamble trying to repair.

After some research I bought a specialist tap extractor from a company called Walton and it worked brilliantly to remove the broken tap without damaging the threads

The main missing parts (apart from gaskets, movement rings etc) are the spring washer, crown tube and most importantly a movement. I know the gen used an eta 2784 but I can't see these for sale at all. The 2783 I understand is basically the same but a lower beat. I'm tempted to use a 2824/2836 for cost/availability reasons but this would mean removing the dial feet and I'm not sure if a 2783/4 date wheel would fit. Any advise on the movement choice from more seasoned builders would be greatly appreciated.!!

Cool project !

had one built a few months ago and I love it. IMO you should go the 2784 way, adding a Tudor stamped rotor and basically you have the same watch as a 9411 as 40 years ago..
you should check eBay, there are some old watches to sell sometimes where you can take the movement.

good luck, I will follow the build!

I will be following along as well. You beat me to this case and other parts by minutes!

Does anyone know where to get a 93150 bracelet or can someone recommend another good option for a 9411?

So I've bought a Avia donor watch from fleabay with an eta 2783. It has just been fully serviced and only ended up costing £50. I figure I can always replace with a 2784 if I find one but this has the exact date wheel I'm looking for and for a serviced swiss movement is a no brainer for now.

A little progress today whilst waiting for parts, I filed down the high spots around the crown and painted the lume on the hands to more closely match the dial. I've never had much luck with baking or using tea/coffee to stain and have found using watercolours much easier plus you can wash off if not right.

I don't have the skills to relume so this works for me. For the bezel pip I tried an experiment as I had an unused Athaya pip gathering dust (I ordered one not realising it came without lume). I soaked a very small piece of kitchen roll in the watercolour mix used for the hands and pushed it into the tip. I then sealed with hypo cement as I was worried ca glue would wick too much. Quite happy with the end result.

So cleaned up and finished taping for the crown tube. Then discovered my Vietnam crown is a 702 not a 703.

Had to order a new crown tube which, coming from China, will probably take a several weeks to arrive.

I've now received the donor watch which is running well so just waiting for crown tube, tiger insert and hands before assembly.

I need to remove the original glued in insert in the meantime. Can anyone recommend the best way to do this?

This is turning into a "show your tudor sub" thread lol

It is but I like it.!! I'm waiting for parts to arrive from China so a bit of extra inspiration is always appreciated.

Whilst waiting I bought 4 watches in need of repair to fill the void. First up is an Explorer II that had been dropped and markers had fallen off, quick set date wasn't working, issues with the keyless (wouldn't hack and couldn't change time).

Nearly done with this one though just the bracelet to clean and hopefully improve the feel of the clasp
