You left it too long should be dipped 5 mins max. Put ketchup and brush with soft toothbrush for 3 mins. Rinse with warm water then brush again with toothpaste rinse and dry. I suggest not touching it while it dries to prevent finger print marks.

do you have to literally dip it in lemon juice for 5 min? and just take it out and it should do the trick? or dip it into ketchup and leave it there for 5 min and thats it? i am also kinda weirded out about leaving mine submerged in the juice for 5 min. Please advise guys :D

I had a bronze case timepiece and although I did not dip it in ketchup, I did wiped it down with a paper towel dipped in ketchup and it cleaned it up nicely. Good luck and I hope it all works out.

Why are people averse to using Brasso?

Brasso is a polish and can be a little too corrosive for our precious precious bronzos. It also smells terrible. I personally use vinegar, lemon juice or just pool water. Pool water is very good because of the chlorine. It is a weak cleaning agent before you use the stronger stuff.

I think that it would be the muriatic acid (HCl) in the pool water doing the business, not the free chlorine. It's a similar proton source to the acetic acid in lemon juice or ketchup. I just think that it's best to use the proper product for cleaning fine metals instead of kludges. But that's just me.

I just guessed- not a lot of thought put into that, haha. Is muriatic acid an American thing? I call it hydrochloric acid lol.
