Tricky ebay tax question

Hello guys, I m living in Australia, i m planning to buy a gen watch on ebay and wondering if I pay for the custom GST, will I claim it back if say, i leave Australia for holiday right away? I tired to google it but going nowhere.

Usually, tax refunds are for non-citizens, doubt you can get a tax refund being a citizen of your own country.

You're referring to the Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) and I believe you won't be able to claim anything bought off eBay as the claim requires an Australian ABN (Australian Business Number)... and yeah won't work if you're an Australian citizen, though maybe if you're a permanent resident?

Yes you can claim the GST as a refund, PROVIDED:

- You have a proper tax invoice.
- You are leaving the country (even a very short overseas trip)
- The item was purchased no more than 30 days prior to departure.
