Hi Guys,

Is there a trick that you guys use to set the chrono hands especially the chrono seconds hand perfectly straight at 12? I want to let my watchsmith know as everytime he sets it its not 100% aligned and that bugs me alot.

Is there some kind of trick you guys are using to set them perfectly at 12?

Cheers

England, Shropshire.
There is no trick. Unlike quartz movements, where you can set the hands back to zero using the stepping motor, a mechanical hand has a mechanical stop, which can't be adjusted externally. The main reason for a chronograph hand not setting back to zero, is because it is a loose fit on the pinion, and the sudden stop of re-set causes it to move on the pinion, therefore the hand no longer indexes correctly.

A job for a watchmaker.

No trick, just experience, but with reps, poor quality tubes can cause real headaches.

With an A7750 it's always best when re-setting the chrono to let the second hand run just past the 12 and then stop it and re-set it. What's even better is to never use the chrono function, but I know that's impossible. Everyone want's to just do it every now and then to see if it's still working.

Hey guys, what about the setting of subdial hands? I always struggle with the 9 subdial on ap modded sec@12 movements! Is there a trick to actually holding the hands firmly and aiming it right?

I always have a bit of rodico on the tip of a tooth pick. I then stick the end of the hand into the rodico, line it up perfectly how I want it and press the hand on. Having the extra length with the tooth pick really comes in handy.

This!+++. I've always do it exactly the same as he does. It will avoid hands scratch i.e using tweezers.
