Total Noob looking for a Panerai

When i first stumbled across this site, i was rushing to buy my first proper rep.
But know i think i'm addicted to learning as much as i can before i do.
So my intention was and still is to be fair to buy a Rolex Sub.

So in my searching i started to see these watches in peoples signatures and around sites called Panerai.
I've never of them but after seeing a couple of designs i knew i had to have me one.
I'm just on the timeshop site currently looking at rollies.
Has anyone or does anyone know what their Panerai rep;s are like?

I'm currently falling in love with the Luminor marina black strap, asian 21j movement with black face and tan strap.
i would prefer it with a black strap.

But anyways are the reps from timeshop good?
will i get a couple years wear out of them?

a 21j in any pam will be crap

Most pams are manual winds. they take 6497 movements which are bullet proof

Well one thing I'll tell ya is that don't base your purchase off of the strap. The strap that comes with almost all reps SUCKS.

So if you really want a black strap, but see a rep that you really like with a brownie, just buy it! With pams it's really easy to switch the straps (no springbar needed!), just be careful not to scratch the case by slipping the screwdriver.

For straps, expect to pay anywhere from $30 to $200.. For really good quality expect >$80.

Its a panerai 195. No really good reps exist unless youre not that picky I would go with DSN

I was starting to make fun of the hacker version of superman when the idea for the logo came into mind for you. It was late, and the reflection doesn't look that great- just let me know what color you want it and with/without reflection (which I'll fix).

Ok i got about £100 spare and i really want to get a panerai!!!!
I want the one like in MMs signature.

i've heard that for the money the strap and movement aren't gonna be great.
and even that there are quite a few flaws to the gen.

But ireally want that watch i can't help myself now.
i think i'm about to throw a tantrum.....how can this be possible??

When you say the 6497 movement is hand wind, what does that mean exactly? Does this mean that it cannot be wound by the crown?

It is wound by turning the crown by hand, yes. It has no automatic winding mechanism (rotor).

The Asian 6497 has a good reputation for reliability.

You can try the new 111J, more than 100 GBP, but very god for the money.
Better to spend a little bit more than to regret it later!

I agree with waiting. Since I got into reps I have sold at least 10 watches because I was impatient and bought without researching. Find your FAVORITE, then find a dealer. Wait until you have enough money and get that!! Once straps become an addiction you will be happy you have a good watch to put them on.

Think of spending the £100 now on any watch just because you want something, as though you are setting yourself £100 further away from a watch you really want.
