TO SERVICE OR NOT TO SERVICE?, read this

There have been separate threads posted lately by different members asking "do new rep watch movements require servicing out of the box?
how dirty could these 'new' movements possibly be?
especially the frequently discussed A7750, I've asked this question here myself in truth.

With this in mind Ive posted below a review from UK WATCH SERVICES, who sadly are no longer trading here, I've not had any direct contact as they were before my time here but the servicing, customer service & relevant feedback shows they knew their stuff & were highly respected, which demonstrates there's a definite niche in the UK for rep services.
Anyway hope it helps in deciding the yes/no question, if nothing else it's a great read...

Require or need is a subjective thing. If it's something you'd consider a keeper, a service will always help but is not necessary unless you notice poor performance.

Nowadays I rarely see a dirty movement. There has been an occasional piece of lint. But pretty much every movement I've serviced has been dry. With poor or no lubrication, the watch can still time accurately while having a poor amplitude. Or it might even run poorly, fluctuating up and down, but the timing might average out so you see the watch as tuning accurately. Without monitoring on a timegrapher, it's kind of like an out of site, out of mind type thing.

And even when you get a timegrapher photo from the TD, they're typically a weak example since they snap a pic after a few seconds.

What's a service cost of your average 2824-2 movement?

I know in the OP's link, there were lots of different, more specialized movements discussed. But for the average 2824 and 2836 movements, is it less expensive to obtain a replacement swiss movement than it is to service?

Am I off base in thinking this? I know my local watchmaker quoted me like $400 bucks to service my older Omega.
