I like the look of the 177 and the 036, I love the mix of the titanium and the brown leather strap.

I am not a Panerai fan normally but these look stunning to me.

What are the flaws to look out for?, does anyone do a particlarly nice one?

What are the main differences between these models?

Sorry for the noob questions
Cheers
Gary

if your talking about flaws rep vs gen they are pretty clear (unless you have no clue).

I have EL's 177h with davidsens hands/canon pin fix. Only thing that is a dead giveaway is the small crown guard. other than that it looks pretty dead on, weight and feel. The movement has obviously not been copied 100%

I say go for it.

I had a 111h before and sold it, bought this 177h, very happy with it, when there will be a better version I will probably get it.

If he made is 111h out of Ti and offered it, it would be pretty damn near perfect.

It actually surprises me that Davidsen has not produced one of these yet, surely he would sell truck loads.

and what is the difference between the the 177 and 036, black and brown dial?

The pam 177 has basically a 111 sandwich dial.
the pam 036 gen has a tobacco sandwich with marina militare at the top and luminor panerai at the bottom, there is not a brown or to say correctly tobacco dial on the rep of the 036.

that is the difference also the 036 has the panerai engraved briges which are harder and harder to come by.

here're some comparision shots.. brown on the "original 195", tobacco on the old version rep036 w a supposed tobacco dial and a black dial 112h..the tobacco colour on the old 36 might not be the same as the gen but has lots of character..changes colour from grey to grey-brown to brown depending on the lighting and the straps..interesting..

the usual flaws are the thin crown, smaller CG and the movement..CG and crown modded on the 177h/176h. ti case of the 040 has been oxidised.

You do have quite a nice selection of Panerai watches I particularly like the oxidized one.

@azgjav
Man you gave some collection of those Ti PAMs...those 176H and 177H could easily pass as gens ! 8)

Just one more thing...036 came as a "sausage" dial only, not a "sandwich" 8)

Can you elaborate on that? I know the width of the crown is thin compared to the GEN. But I don't see a difference with the crown guard.

Thanks.

I'll try if I may...the CGs you get on current 44mm Base and Marina reps are thinner (in profile) than gens. You'll recognise them by the fact that the lever 'sits' closer to the top of the CG and not in the center (lever on gens is much more centered).
Thinner CGs used to come stock in earlier gen PAM series, I believe A-E, but since 2001/02 Panerai switched to thicker CGs, first polished, then brushed (those brushed ones appeared first on G series Base and Marinas). Autos and chronos 44mm also had thinner CG.

These days, thin crowns are still available on 40mm gens, however.

Rep makers/factories simply "re-used" those old style CGs, I believe simply to minimise production costs in making new dies for thick CGs, but could be other resons, not 100%on that. I believe the reson behind thin crowns on reps is similar.

I hope rep makers will soon start producing the 'current' PAM 44mm case and CG.

pretty much what you said.

I could tell while holding a gen 177h and my rep that the CG is thinner. noticeable only to me to because I was actively looking for differences. A part of the clasp can be seen on the inside of the CG on a gen you dont see that everything is flush.

The REP parts tend to just be the WRONG age for the model, they are not always incorrect ...

Not sure if your response was directed to my post above...
no disrespect Enzo, really, but I thought I said pretty much the same thing, fallacy not intended at all...as I said - "I'll try if I may..."
