Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 or a ZF AP 15500?

Hey guys,

First post here after lurking the forums for quite some while haha!

I really want to pull the trigger on my next watch. I'm torn between the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 (gen ofc) and a ZF AP 15500. If I get the AP, it would be my first rep.

2 arguments in favor of the AP: I prefer the design & the Tissot is 25-30% more expensive.
2 arguments in favor of the PRX: reliability & easy servicing.

I'd be disappointed if my AP stops working after a couple of years. I'll be using it a lot at least until an even better rep comes out in a couple of years.

I'd love to hear your thoughts about it, thanks!

Side question: I often travel to hot countries. Can I rock an AP with a t-shirt & shorts?

Can't speak for others here, but my collection is a mix of gens and some reps that I can pull off as they're not worth more than my house ;). The more flashier reps that I have are on rotation with other watches, but I flip between my gen Tissot gentleman's watch and my ZF Black Bay 58 as my daily beaters. The BB has an ETA so it's robust in anything goes wrong.

The others, especially the reps, are worn when heading out for dinner, friends houses etc.

I'm pretty much on the same boat! How's the Myota on that AP rep? I imagine it's quite sturdy.

I've got a few reps with Miyota's and they're quite sturdy, but have a loud rotor which can be silenced quite easily (there's a thread somewhere here showing how it's done). Just avoid rep movements for daily wearers. Some might disagree so it's just my opinion.

Hope that helps.

PRX have reps btw. But IMO, I'll go for the AP anyways, for the maximum bling effect.

Thanks man, just bought the AP. I don't really care about the bling effect. I enjoy the design, I don't want to show off haha :)

That's a huge price difference (gen to gen).

For me when I buy reps I buy reps in my budget. Things I can afford which noone would bat an eye at. A gen sub (not that u can find one) is 9 grand. I have a few gens so people don't flinch.

If I went to work with one of these 500k (horrid) RM's people would wonder how much cocaine I'm slinging in my free time. So long answer is....

If you can properly afford the AP your "shorts" better not come from Old Navy....

You're totally right. The biggest tell that a watch is a rep is yourself. I don't want to brag but I can pull off an AP no questions asked.

I hate blingy watches. My collection consists of gen Tags & Omegas (my 2 favorite brands). It's just that I would never spend more than 5-10k on a watch. It is still an obscene amount of money with all the misery around us. Hell, 500$ is a life-changing amount of money for most of the world's population.

Thus, when I was talking about rocking my AP in shorts, I was purely talking fashion-wise.
It's funny actually cause I couldn't care less about designers' clothes. Everything I wear comes from popular brands. My dad, who's way richer than me, dresses like a surfer and dgaf.
We pull it off because it's all about confidence. I think ppl give too much importance to appearances. I live in Paris and go to the GV or Costes dressed casually. People there can smell from a mile away if someone's not comfortable and doesn't feel like he "belongs" there.

Weird flex, but ok.

On topic, you can most certainly rock an ap with shorts. You probably will find a lot of fashion icons doing just so if you google any random icon plus ap casual clothes and you’ll find plenty. Unless you’re planning to go to the queens banquet. Then you’ll have no business there rocking an ap in shorts any how.
As you said, it’s all about your confidence.

I was in the same boat and ordered a couple of APs reps, but also tried the get Tissot. Honestly, it feels like the quality was better on the AP rep. I know, I know, it's a cheap Chinese copy, etc etc, but I was not impressed with the Tissot. Don't get me wrong, I loved the way it looks in Youtube videos, reviews, and so on, but it didn't feel great on the wrist. So my vote goes to ZF AP

Hahahah got a little carried away! Honestly, I wasn't trying to flex at all. It was just to illustrate that appearances don't really matter anyway. It's all about the non-verbals. It was to answer the guy that said that AP + Old Navy shorts don't work. I disagree.

Thanks for your input, man!

PS: just remembered that "popular" doesn't mean the same thing in English. I meant popular in the sense that it's for everyone aka H&M. I'll never buy a t-shirt for more than 20$.

That's impressive! I've just bought the ZF AP because someone else also mentioned that. Thanks for the input, can't wait for it to arrive!

If one only buys/wears those (reps) that one can actually afford/pull-off in gen, then I would not have any of the tourbillons, PPs, RMs, and many others. To own replicas of the "unattainables" is IMHO a major fun aspect of this hobby.

I love that attitude hahah! Not a huge fan of these brands and wouldn't do it but I like your thought process.

By the way, today I got 15400 from APSF (with clone movement). In my humble opinion (although I know AP experts may disagree), the APSF feels even better than ZF!

Interesting, everyone recommended me ZF for the 15500. Pretty sure I'll be happy with it!

Everyone overthinking it again. Mark Wahlberg looks and dresses like a bum and wears a Patek.
