Thoughts on using a thumbnail on 111

What are people's thoughts on mixing it up a bit and using the smaller lower profile thumbnail style buckle instead of a pre-v on a 111?

Nothing bad about it. The thumbnail buckle has been used on other 44mm PAMs before.

Depends on the strap imo.
Looks great on asso and croc straps
