A historian, being interviewed on BBC Radio 4 described it as "computer generated Hollywood drivel from beginning to end".

Sounds like my kind of film :)

Tell you what...

If it wasn't for Hollywood and its money, England or even EU would be making this film with cardboard swords and second rate actors....

He who has the money he who makes the rules....

Movie is freaking awesome.

Fight scenes were probably best so far this year, this movie will sweep the awards.

Saw this for the 2nd time today with ....

my wife. She laughed at inappropriate times like every time she saw the leather loin cloths. I blocked those images out both times I saw the movie. But she liked it a lot. I think it is a great movie experience. And enjoyed the history of it. Of course it plays a little fast and loose but it does show the Spartan ethic, and the way they trained as professional warriors compared with the other Greek city states. Read the "Gates of Fire" a popular book that many thought should have been the basis for this movie.
My favorite scene was when the rhino charged.
Cheers

Saw it last night. Terrific! A scholar who is critical of it as historical drivel is looking for the wrong message. IT is campy with stylized violence and through this manages to maintain a focus on noble things withut taking itself too seriously. Worth seeing again.

Tell you what.........you're wrong...he who has the money makes the money.......he doesn't get to make history.....only bad revisions of it.....such as how the Americans captured the Enigma machine...but hey....he who has the money never let history stand in the way of a good yarn........!

It would be filled with great actors.....not movie stars......it would have a great plot.....not a comic book one......and it would have great direction.....not by M Night Shyalaman....!

It's a cinematic copy...of a Frank Miller comic book........not a Shakespearean drama........so if you want history......see the documentary......BTW...Leonidas.....in 300......is played by Scots / Glasgow actor....Gerard Butler......and a good job he made of it.....:D

If I remember correctly, Luhrmann did both, with excellent cinematography.

But then again, we go to a movie to be entertained, not to see a Shakespearean drama, right?

seriously though, Frank Miller has a large backing in Hollywood, anything he makes right now is gold, so sadly ttk is right, he who has the money makes the money

Novesh are you implying that a Shakespearean drama isn't entertaining?

Hamlet, Macbeth?
