Does anyone make a thick croc or alligator band? Maybe croc or alligator on top of a soft calf skin.

Could you please specify what 'thick" is? Thick to one person is thin to another.

5mm or more

Ok, well to me that's just right not thick :)

I don't know how thick Hktan's croc straps are, but I would imagine they are around that. There are a few strap makers that can be found here: http://replica-watch.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11308 Take a look and see what they have to offer. Most have sizes listed.

There is also the custom made route, but custom made croc or gator of that thickness would be very expensive.

Check these guys out hxxp://stores.ebay.com/The-Watch-Boys-Store

They have traditional pam color schemes and semi reasonable prices. I have not yet personally ordered from them yet, but am planning on purchacing a black/black croc for a 196 project.

LOL, those say right on their description they are 2mm thick.

I think the best method is going to be custom. But you would pay more for the strap than the watch.

The croc straps that I looked at stated 5mm at lugs and a taper to 3mm. I am I not looking at the right info?

No you are looking at the same as me. I was looking at the deployment ones. You are looking at the buckle ones. Still those are not 5mm or thicker. I am getting ready to do a little strap exhibit for everyone to show the differences. Hopefully in a couple days.

And although I cannot prove this, at those prices it may not be gen crocodile or gator. I know they say it is, but you could claim that, if the pattern was gen. Like I said, I am not sure, but it looks that way. Still great leather.

I appreciate the advice guys, can't believe I overlooked the "pam strap" thread that was right in front of me. I'd actually visited quite of few of those web pages through a google search, but it is nice to have them in one place. I can now use that thread as a check list to know if I've missed any dealers.

Thanks

Aaron of HKTan can make thick alligator straps. He once showed me one of his thick alligator straps he made for his own GP Sea Hawk II...more than 5mm...around 7mm...its all about padding.

OEM alligator. About 4mm:

Just choose good skins - and let the leather do the talking. 5mm is thickness enough - more is probably just ostentatious. Unless it is on a 187. :D

After reviewing the various straps on the various sites suggested, I think I could have worded my question better. Most croc/gator bands are generally 2mm to 3mm at the edges and padded in the middle (maybe up to 5mm). However, I prefer straps with a consistent thickness from edge to center. For example, if you look at the pictures Highflyingclive posted, the first picture is an example of what I'm accustomed to seeing in a croc/gator strap. The second picture of the OEM is listed as 1mm smaller than the first picture, but it has a thicker side profile, and I'm guessing it is a more substantial band (never seen an OEM in person). The third picture is starting to hit the thickness range with the side profile, but, it is not a croc/gator. I am looking for a band like that or thicker in a croc/gator. I hope this clarifies my question. I apologize if someone has already pointed out such a band in an earlier post, but I if they have, I have overlooked it.

Thanks again for everyones assistance.

CUSTOM!!!

I seriously don't think you are going to find any machine made straps that are 5mm or thicker in gen croc or gator . Gen croc or gator leather itself is only 1mm thick to begin with, so you would need a backer layer(s) to make up the rest of the thickness. This is only achieved by custom making. If you want faux/embossed gator or croc, you could get it in 2-4mm thickness then the backer layer(s) wouldn't be so thick. This is a cheaper route, and to be honest there are some great looking embossed leathers. However, both these options call for custom made. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative you are not going to find it in the thickness you want. It's going to cost more than the watch you are putting it on. (that is if it's a rep)

Bbell6 if you want a strap that is built in a thicker historic style the Simona does them hxxp://www.simonastraps.com. No padding, either rolled or chopped sides.

Kinda expensive though

Those are 300 euros a piece and are still only 4mm thick. He wants at least 5mm.

Yeah but I saw one in the flesh and it looked as thick as my vintage leather.

Thats about as thick as 2 ply croc can get and three and above laminates IMO are nasty.

"Only" 200 euros in any case.
