Hi guys!

For the past months i’ve been on this forum and I saw some amazing pieces coming by. I think I got the franken feaver as well. Because of that I bought an ARF 116610 LN here on the forum from Pietjebel. Watch came with a Spongebob insert and a gen datewheel, so a nice base to build a bit further to my franken baby.

Arrived like this.

The first thing i noticed was the feeling and the sound of the bezel. In the sales section here I bought a set of gen clicksprings from Sub007.

After installing them I was amazed what a difference that made to the click and the feeling when turning it. Just feels expensive and more precise.

As the dial is a direct give away on the ARF i was searching for a gen chromalight dial and found one on Ebay. These are getting expensive. I saw some new blistered ones on CH24 for as much as 2k. Mine cost half for a used one in very good condition.

I also tracked down a Gen Medium Box with English Booklets to make it a nice set.

Yesterday also the gen crystal came in. Nice to see the difference in the details in the LEC.

So today brought the dial and the crystal to my watch smith. Cant wait for the dial to pop out from underneath the gen crystal. Will be done next week. Will keep this thread updated as more gen parts will be sourced and put together.

Wishlish and parts to be sourced:

- Gen hands
- Gen Movement
- Gen insert (actually the spongebob is damn good, so not sure about that)

For some reason the watchmaker could not get the glas out. So that will be done including the hands next week hopefully.

Yes, but now i know why people say this hobby is a never ending money story lol! The urge to make everything gen. But, as i don’t have a gen assembly and the gen insert is a bit flatter, the crystal may look higher. Not loving that. So maybe i will keep it like this. Maybe someone has some more insight about the shinyness of the gen insert, is that the same As this insert? Looking at gen pictures it seems the look a bit more matt.

Starting to love the look of it. Looking forward to the gen crystal and hands. Should make a ton of difference and also if I read correctly, slightly less magnification of the date. Or should I ask the watch smith to shave the gasget 0,5mm?

What a nice build so far that insert really does the job well. Keep it that way for now until a opportunity comes up to grab a gen, you will notice a difference. Good luck!

I wouldn’t shave a gasket because it could compromise the seal of the crystal against the case if it is even slightly uneven or if the heat from shaving causes it to expand. Just buy a shorter gasket. They’re not that expensive and you don’t HAVE to have a gen gasket. They all get the job done.

Little update. So, my watchsmith got the old crystal out and fit the gen one. Apperantly the old crystal was glued in place for some reason. With the gen crystal/gen gasket in place the retaining ring seems to be a fraction to large and sort of swims around the gasket. That way it will never be waterproof and i won’t let it be glued in again. For that reason, and because i think the noob v9 case is a bit better, I bought a complete v9 3135 here last week. All the parts I don’t need from that watch can be sold, to get back some of the cost. From what I read the crystal should fit on the noob case without big extra work. So he’s going further with the parts as soon an the new watch arrives. Fingers crossed it will be done in 2 weeks.

The parts list well be:

- Gen Dial €860
- Gen Hands €250
- Gen Crystal €250
- Gen Datewheel
- Gen Clicksprings €200
- Spongebob insert

Hope I can show the end result soon. Ciao!

So! Sunday Funday! My Franken 116610 is ready and will be picked up today from my watch smith. The noob v9 case did the job and the gen crystal and gen hands are in. The first wr test was a fail because of a leak at the crown and the crystal gasket. Two new gaskets and he got it up to 10 Bar WR. I’m thrilled to pick it up today.

What i’ve learned so far is that one of the biggest abillities in this hobby, next finding the parts, is to have patience. For most of them it is something they do next to there jobs and families. But, thanks to my watch smith who was building it until 02:00 last night, it worked out at last. This is a fun hobby, and having a skilled watchmaker who thinks in possibilities is key. Also learned a lot by going through te process of finding the right parts etc.

Will be sharing some pictures this afternoon.

Looks good man :) haha it's indeed a never ending money story. I have a ZZF on the way. I hope that i will receive it this week. Im also thinking about changing the DW, but when I start with that It will probably be hard to resist the franken-game :p Curious who your watchsmit is, as you are probably dutch ;)!

Keep up the good word, and i'm really curious how it will look when it's finished!
