The evolution from a noob

I have to admit it, when i got into reps, I wanted them ALL! But after owning a few "standard reps" and noticing the flaws, it became apparent I want quality over quantity. Then it was the dodgey dealers and the poor communication. After buying a DSN, it was obvious that I want a well crafted rep, and that having several average ones just didn't feel right.

This has taken almost a year, and now I weigh each new purchase with scrutiny.

My question for everyone is how long did it take you to go from a noob to an aficionado?

Hm well can't say I'm not a noob, then again I don't feel like I am a noob..

I think Britney spears said it best...

"I used to think
I had the answers to everything
Mm but now I know
That reps doesnt always go my way. yeah
Feels like Im caught in the middle
Thats when I realize

Im not a noob
Not yet a expert
All I need is time
A movement that is mine
While Im in between
Im not a noob"

I think it's more of a journey from Anal to realistic expectations. If you can reach that you will have peace of mind.

I went from wanting one of each, to wanting a decent quality select few in about a year. I am not quite so "anal" as some, but I have found that most watches do not really appeal to me for one reason or another. I am currently down to 13 watches that I wear in a one a day rotation when I am on the beach. When I am offshore I rotate an Invicta and a Seiko. Not very exciting but I am very satisfied with my current selection.

Yep, ever since the SPAM links to her supposed sex tape, etc.

It took me about 6 mos, maybe a little more, to realize that I'd rather have 6 really nice watches, than a dozen or 18 so-so watches. I end up wearing the same handful of watches 99% of the time, anyway.

I went from binge buying just to fill up space in my watch boxes as a total noob, to looking for the best reps in about 6 months. Now I've got a rotation of about 6 favorites, including 2 frankens, that get all the wrist time.

Lately I'm going towards looking for the best reps for less than $200. I'm really liking some of the deals that can be found for around $100.

And after trying a few Panerai, Breitling (other than the fish) and other large watches, I keep coming back to really liking Rolex and Omega, which is just opposite of most people here. I'm seeing monster watches as really looking stupid. Watches that yell "Hey, look at me" I just don't get.

Over 600 posts and I still feel like a 'noob' and I'm still buying on impulse... :)

I'm a noob still because I think I know everything, but the well-esteemed members point me out to my inaccuracies.
