PreV Southy Dial Collection - Finally Complete!

Hey all.. just sharing some pics of the Southy dial watches that i've been able to acquire through the great members of our hobby's forums.. this is definitely a start of a PreV addiction for me... im afraid this addiction will have to be fed through 2015 before I join some kind of help group for PreV addicted collectors..

All dials are Southy's with swiss movements... each one could be improve upon and I will do so throughout the year.. I also have a Southy 205a incoming... to the other PreV collectors out there.. has Southy produced any other dials? I know he has a 203a out there but not sure if he has produced any others... please share your knowledge.. thanks in advance!

Update 2/4/15 - Finally got my Southy PreV collection complete! All dials below are Southy except for the 002a on the far right which is a Rollie Swiss Standard dial..

201a > 202a > 202a > 203a > 205a > 218a > 002a Rollie Dial

The watches below: 218a, 202a, 202a, 201a.. hope you enjoy the pics..

Here is a 218 Slytech Comparison.. Close enough for me since I will never spend over $100k for a watch...! :nana:

Here is a 201a Gen vs Southy 201a Comparison:

Gen 202a's on top with one heavily patina's and one not as much vs. my Southy's on the bottom... again close enough for me to enjoy and appreciate the Southy dials..

These photos show the extent of Southy's achievements. Too bad he went into retirement.

I've been hit by the Pre V bug as well. Ive got the SLOB, a 203, and I'm waiting on a 202 I picked up off of the sales forum last week. All are from DSN (obviously on the SLOB).

I've done a piss-poor job of pairing down my collection.

Hey Ink... Cases are DSN's for the PVD's and a custom 111J caseset reshaped for the 201a..

I too have a bit of a pre-V "problem"

Southy makes the best! The only on that has alluded me is the 218.... I want it.

To answer your question, he does (did) make a 203/a. It's my all time favorite Pre-V

On only a small hand full of his dials he used a very specific technique that reproduces the exact appearance of the genuine Pre-V dial: the glossy lacquer fill and varnish finish. The process has a very high failure rate due to the difficulty. A member on HF coined the term "museum grade" when referring to these special Southy dials. If you've got one of his "museum grade" dials like the one above count yourself lucky!!!

Hey Grim.. thanks for the info! I follow all of your PreV posts! Thanks for the great information! That 203a of yours is awesome! i've been searching for one of those..! Need to get one! Not sure if any of what i have are "museum grade" but man they are so close based on the pics.. specially the lighter patina 202a and the 201a that i posted.. I have a southy 205a incoming from the great buckle maker from greece.. its enroute and cant wait to have it in hand! :)

So outside of the 201a, 202a, 203a, 205a, and the 218.. has he made any other PreV (209, 210, 201A Slytech or 207a) or any PreA (004, 009)? Just wondering what other southy dials out there that i need to look out for..

Also in light of the new info in Paneristi regarding the 218 watch debacle, the post there had the blueprint for the correct caseback for the 218. Its actually not called the 218a.. no such thing. I've already emailed Jakob to ask if he can make me the correct 218 caseback using the original 218 blueprint!.. :)

after having seen these amazing preV dials from Southy, are FGD dials still worth anything? I might want to let my 201a go to some one who would love it more than me.

I've got a whole series of posts to do on Pre-V this year. I'm going to take Kilo's suggestion;)

By the way, you will know if you have one of his museum dials. The lacquer fill on the numbers and markers will be glossy and the dial will be semi matte. I'll try to get a picture of what I'm talking about.

FGD dials are equally as good, just in different ways. Keep your FGD!

For the Southy, here's what I'm talking about with the dial finish. No one has created Pre-V dials with this quality level of detail. Southy is a master:
