They do stop them but often they don't get there in time. That's why you'll often find people trying to sell replica items using shorter auctions (i.e., one or two days as opposed to a week). It also seems to depend on the extent to which the brand owners are actively involved in the process (some of them take it more seriously than others).

And that's exactly why they removed them. If he didn't mention anything I bet he would've sold them anyway. I rarely see anything I report get removed. Don't forget that eBay makes money outta the whole deal if the buyer actually pays up so it's not all about "not getting there on time".

So a guy over at the geek is selling a gen tissot prc200. i really liked it and went on ebay to see what they are going for. they are selling for about half of what he wants. then after about 5 minutes of research i find out the majority of the one on ebay are reps. One guy had a listing that had sold like 65 of the same rep watch.
he is getting away with it.

That's what I'm saying. eBay makes money either way so they couldn't care less if something is rep or gen. Of course they have to put it in their policy that selling counterfeit goods is illegal and shit but at the end of the day they get their money anyway. Even when you report something you get an email saying that even if an action is taken to remove the listing you won't be notified of it...I try to stop myself from buying stuff from eBay. The times I do buy is when I'm sure of what I'm buying. You really need to know what tells to looks for when you're buying whatever.

I've reported several reps (that were being falsely advertised as genuine) and they don't seem to care. I figure, if you're going to spend thousands on something without seeing it in person first, you accept the risk anyway.

I haven't really searched for many watches on ebay so cant speak to the reps on there but I can tell you that "replica" clothing is ALL OVER ebay and they do nothing about it that I can see. I had bought a couple of shirts about 2 years ago before I even knew that the whole rep world existed, when I got them, they didnt seem right but couldnt put my finger on it. They were cut funny and shrunk after 2 washes to the point where I wouldnt wear them anymore.

I know now that these had to be reps and now when I run the same searches, and know about the rep world, it is obvious, the "tells" on what is rep and what is real. Ebay HAS to know what is going on here and with the feedback ratings on some of those sellers being in the 100s or 1000s, they turn their head.

I didnt realize that it was as prevalent in the watch rep world though....If people know they are buying reps, thats one thing but people passing off $10000 watches as gen needs to be addressed.

I sell cosmetics on eBay that I got from a manufacturing company (my own) that went out of business last year.

Anyway, the rules are:

1) It must be genuine - duh! right?
2) If it LOOKS like a genuine piece (a homage piece for instance) you cannot mention the original company or model in either the title or description ... you couldn't say in the title "Rolex Look-alike Watch". Why? .. It would come up in an item search and possibly confuse somebody.
3) A homage piece must be devoid of any trade names or trademarks ... for instance if you were to remove the word "Rolex" from a homage watch, you still couldn't sell it if it had the trademark crown on the face.
