It's been a LONG time since I've been active on the forums. I've been sitting back building while quietly studying and practicing, but never doing any real posting.
Now I feel it's time to break silence and share a project that has been a personal obsession, the perfect Ti build. Originally Oncyte is to blame, he posted a Franken 61 a few years ago and I was hooked. With the H 61D released last year the perfect platform was available along with acquiring a GEN 61/118 dial it was time for a grail build.
The real work was in the crown and CG. H crowns are too crisp, too sharp and gens are softer subtle in terms of edge definition. I re-beveled the edges, especially the case side. Then I polished the crown, yes polished! Setting the Dremel on hi-speed with polishing compound over the teeth, and re-brushed along the same direction of the teeth.
The CG was a labor of love, since I've search months for a gen Ti CG with no luck then it was incumbent to rework the H. First thing I did was lower the pin, notice I said lowered and not flattened, a big difference. On gens the pin backs out over time and isn't flush with the bridge which drives me crazy, don't ask. The solution to make the pin sit lower is drilling the bottom of the CG where the pin rests, allowing to pin the be more flush. The other advantage to this technique allows the pin on the underside of the CG to be more flush as per gen. The lever tip was shortened, and edge polished, then rebrushed. Lever flop was eliminated by using 2 part epoxy instead of hot-glue, a later time I may opt to add a rubber bushing but for now this works.
Another view of the CG, notice how the lever tip edging is soft, almost rounded.
The pin is almost flush, a little drilling goes a long way.
Gen dial and DSN's hands match perfectly, lume is spot on. Oncyte's CP work cannot go unnoticed!
With a well regulated ETA 6497 installed, gen rubber I have a keeper. Thanks for reading!
