"Thank God i didn't drop 4k SGD on a Blackbay!" A review on the midnight blue BB

Thank God i didn't drop 4k on a Tudor BB at the AD. I just received my Tudor BB Midnight Blue today and it is amazing. This is my first time writing a review and i am not very technically gifted in horology so please go easy on me!

First up, here are the specifications of the watch.
Size: 41mm x 11mm
Movement: Asian Clone 2824-2 25J @ 28,800vph
316 Steel
Dome shaped Colorless AR on Sapphire
Stainless Steel Bracelet
Uni-directional Bezel

I would like to comment on the movement. I feel that the BB is an excellent rep to purchase because the gen is essentially using the exact same movement (albeit a gen ETA2824 rather than an Asian Clone). The strengths of the clone has been written about extensively, so i shall not discuss that any further.

I decided to purchase a midnight blue over the red after trying both on at an AD. To be honest, i would have liked to have both but after weighing it out, i think the midnight blue is a stunning contender for a daily beater watch to bring to work. The red on the other hand, would be a watch that i would wear to bars or a more casual encounter. This is entirely up to you of course, it's my own opinion.

On to the pictures:

I have to say that the Tudor BB is an excellently built rep watch. It feels solid in the hands and feels great on the wrist. Having tried the gen, i have to say the rep comes really close in terms of looks and feel.

On to specifics:
Bezel - Bezel clicks well and is crisp. It is tightly fixed onto the assembly. I've been playing with it since getting it
Crystal - colourless domed crystal is awesome
Chapter Ring - Could have been done better, i felt like the finish on the chapter ring wasn't very refined but you really have to scrutinized it real close to notice this
Bracelet - Well made, feels solid and very much like the gen even though it is a 316L SS. End links are solid. Only issue here is with the clasp. The gap (already pronounced issue that has been raised) is a little large. Another issue is that the edges are a little sharp. Engraving looks great on the watch.

Closing Thoughts:I think the Tudor BB is an outstanding rep and really worth the money.

1) It is going at slightly under 300USD at some dealers before shipping.
2) It is using a clone of the movement you would get in a gen
3) It is a really good looking watch, love the white markers and hands on a black dial. Midnight blue makes the entire thing look posh.

I give a 8/10 for this watch. I hope you enjoyed reading this review.

Questions, comments, suggestions: please feel free to PM me or reply on this thread.
Rep points will be appreciated :)

Thanks Lou88 for sharing your purchase with us. Lovely watch , I was also thinking to try the midnight blue BB, since V2 of the marroon BB seems to be not entirely satisfactory to me (mainly difference in hands colour vs dial ). To your knowledge is this V2 of the BB?

Don't know unless it becomes clear whether a V3 of the BBs exists and whether it is significantly improved with respect to pearl quality, clasp gap, and hands colour, I'm kind of in standby for purchasing a BB. Any hints from the gurus??

Yes, to my knowledge it is a V2. I might be wrong, i am not a guru so it would be good if some could chime in. For me, it looks like a V2 pearl. But i think the pearl is a considered improvement over the V1s. The clasp gap (as seen in my photo) is rather conspicuous, but is a minor issue for me. I think the V3 is supposed to have better lume, but i don't see much of an improvement on mine from the V2s i have seen.

Hopefully someone will chime in on the discussion..

I personally think the flaws are acceptable for the blue bb.

Thanks for the nice review of the BB blue. It looks really good imo with the improved V2 pearl. As colourwise hands and markers are consistent I prefer this one over the red V2 and someday will have to get one. For now, still in love with the red V1 and its more creamy white coloured hands and markers on a bomberjacket strap for everyday use and casual but agree with Lou88 that this blue on the SS bracelet makes a very nice office complement.
Congrats - and rep points given for a nice review.

Thank you! I think i will get a Red BB in time. Hopefully when the V3 becomes a confirmed reality. Do you have a picture of your V1 on the bomberjacket? I would love to take a look at it.

Very nice post Lou.

thanks very much, I really enjoyed it and might get one
as well ( a red one that is).
I almost purchased a gen early this year. Like you, I'm glad I didn't because I have had a lot of fun with that money since.

Nice review! ..... Quick question: How good is the rep's accuracy of the crown?

How's the accuracy of the colour of the bezel?

Pandaguys: The accuracy of the bezel on both the red and blue BBs aren't an issue IMO.

Wittnauer: Great choice my friend! To be honest, after starting on this hobby i don't really see a point in buying gen especially if it's watches like the BB which use movements that have already been cloned by the Chinese factories. If it was an in house movement though... I might have a tough decision to make! I'm glad you had fun spending the money cos i did!

mydnytrydr: Engraving is deep and finish is good. I've heard some people nitpick on it but i really think it's a minor issue that is as good as non-existent.

On mobile now and just personally handled the blue BB and the maroon v2. I got to say, the blue version is amazing!

Hands and hour markers match in person. Lume is superb and build quality is outstanding. Only noticeable flaw is the clasp gap. Urggghhhh... Is there any way to fix it?

Hahaha bro I was just thinking the exact thing to be honest. I dont see any viable solution at the moment given the way the clasp is constructed. Hopefully a v3 clasp or smth comes up.

Was the clasp a problem with the V1s?

Meah, I don't care how good the rep is the red insert BB is a watch I would have bought the gen of had the funds been there at the right time without thought or latent sorrow.

Yeah I agree with you, that wld be a better thing to deal with rather than improving on the lume. Second priority wld be the crown
