Hopefully Mary Jo Kopechne wasn't there to greet him with a baseball bat...

He was consistent, or was he?

He was all for wind-generated power... Unless the turbines were off his own shore. THAT he wasn't for.

Never cared much for him.

Let's show some respect guys. For almost 50 years no politician contributed more to increasing the rights of women and minorities, advancing public funding for higher education, extending benefits to those who've lost their jobs, protecting people with disabilities, and attempting to provide the basic human right to universally available healthcare that every other industrialized nation already offers.

I'm not trying to say the man was without his flaws, but that could be said for anyone. But for how many can it be said that he literally improved the lives of tens of millions of ordinary Americans? If your daughter gets to play a sport, if you received a govt. loan for college, if you've ever been laid off and gone on COBRA, know anyone in a wheelchair who's ever needed a ramp... well, you can thank Ted Kennedy.

Right or left, conservative or liberal, Republican or Democrat, I think most people can agree that it's messed up to drive drunk, kill someone, and have your lawyers cover it up.

Thank you Ted for...

Opening the floodgates to illegal immigration

HMOs

Convincing millions that the government exists to take care of you

The "Waitress Sandwich"

Spending my money

Allowing me to drive drunk, drown a woman, and permitting me to walk away from the situation.

Finally vacating that senate seat! Hope you rot in hell Teddy!

Hey I gotta correct things when they're wrong. He did not support HMOs. I mean he was clearly for them before he was against them.

 I didn't realize what a conservative crowd it was at RWI... going to bow out of this thread before it devolves further into Glenn Beck / Lou Dobbs "forners are are ruinin' A'merca" territory.

I didn't realize what a conservative crowd it was at RWI...

Ok that was a little funny.

But seriously please don't bring politics into it. There is no evidence that having a particular affiliation has a bearing on aberrant behavior.

And who said I was a conservative?

Oh and Glenn Beck is a loon.

I said I was a conservative; no one else.
And that I listened to him even though he was a flawed man, as we all are.

He was just another sinner. Just like me.
But he did have a grain of truth to teach.

Cheers, all.

Was he the last Kennedy in public office? Well, at least he lived a full life unlike his brothers. His press secretary did a pretty good job keeping his image intact in light of the drinking and philandering issues.

I think those on the left will see him as a revered figure in american politics and those on the right will have a different view for good reasons.

Hmmm. I doubt any of us have killed our secretaries. :?

So what makes a sinner a sinner? Ah this is not the place to be philisophical.

Brian Cowen, An Taoiseach of Ireland said today, "America has lost a great and respected statesman and Ireland has lost a long-standing and true friend"

Who writes this bullshit.

The "Waitress Sandwich"

What's a waitress sandwich?

In 1985, Dodd and fellow Senator Ted Kennedy were out (with dates) for a night on the town at La Brasserie. Much liquor was consumed--that will come as a shock to those of us familiar with Ted Kennedy--and the two Senators were at one point unaccompanied by their dates. The Senators made a "Waitress Sandwich" out of some poor, unsuspecting waitress

I believe it originates with this-

"In 1985, Dodd and fellow Senator Ted Kennedy were out (with dates) for a night on the town at La Brasserie. Much liquor was consumed--that will come as a shock to those of us familiar with Ted Kennedy--and the two Senators were at one point unaccompanied by their dates. Edit- Ah heck, caz was quicker than me :D

Classy.

I don't suppose that term came up in any of the eulogies today.
