TC Sub V6, Disappointment

Hi Guys,

With great anticipation, after close to 4 months of waiting, my TC V6 finally arrived. Opened the package only to discover several "observations" below. I am trying to be careful and selective with my words here as I know from fellow forumers that TC only delivers top notch quality. My question is, should I complain about these "observations" or should I live with them?

Btw, sorry for the poor photos.

1) Dial is not perfectly centered in the casing. This is the first thing that came to my eyes when looking at the watch.

The movement ring basically is in the case fairly snug, the dial feet must be a tad off for this to occur. The centration is so barely off, remember it is not gen but damn close to it. You should not expect gen perfection from these things. The dings and such, I don't know what to say. I had one of my buddies press a crystal for me once and when it came back I had about 4 similar dings along the back. The amount of pressure needed to press the crystal retainer is quite a bit and perhaps the press caused these. Who knows? See what TC has to say....

I do not really know where to set my expectations but definitely not against the gen. However, owning several sub $300 reps, I don't see the same.

I have had this issue with a couple of BPSD when I changed out the stock dial with a TC dial. The dial is to snug so you can't adjust it. If you remove the dial and shave/sand the edges you can align it. It's about a 30 minute job from start to finish.

Subjeff, if he does what you are suggesting, might that cause the date window to come out of alignment ?

Are you talking about the date relative to the cyclops? I'm not cutting the dial feet, just moving the entire dial to the right a fraction of an inch.

For either the datewheel or the cyclops.

It does not change the dial relative to the date wheel because I'm still using the dial feet so the dial and movement are the same. By sanding the dial edge this allows me to move the dial and movement over slightly. Not sure if I'm making any sense or answering your question? Lol

I just seem to remember TC saying on some of his DWOs which were left justified, that sometimes he taps the dial to the left to help correct it, (I guess slightly bending the feet). If thats the case here, would that mess up the adjustment.

Can I just wiggle the whole dial/movement assembly to the right side a little? Not sure if there's any free play in the retainer ring.

Ahh I typed too soon......

This explains it all...."allows me to move the dial and movement over slightly".

Thanks !

I have not had the pleasure of messing with a v6. I would try just loosening the movement screws and wiggling first... Worst case scenario shave the edges. Good luck bud!!!

Is it just me or are these V6 DWO off center to the left? His new V3 DWO was suppose to fix that. I have one of his type III LV and the DWO is centered(V3 DWO). I wonder if there was a problem with getting dwo's and that's why he went with a "negitive" DWO on the Caddell models that came between the V5 and V6? Or, maybe the KH dials date window is a tad to the right compared to the dial he designed the V3 DWO on? Or, maybe I'm just seeing things, my V6 is on it's way and should be here by weeks end, I'll compare my LV with it.

I tried my best to capture a clearer photo. The DWO seems to be a tad left justified. Maybe that's the reason for the dial issue? Be the judge.

Well well, I didn't really expect to start such discussion for a TC super rep...moreover a V6.

Pop, it's hard to tell from the pic but if the dial moved over slightly to the right would that jack up the date/cyclops alignment?

You are right, it depends on the viewing angle. Just by eyeballing, it seems that there's still room to move the dial to the right with the alignment of cyclop still in place.

The dings are an issue, but if you get it modded ay.all youll get a ding. If you wear it youll get more. Honestly if you replace the crown and crystal it will be a big step up. I am a bit tired of these posts though, just take it up w tc privately first before you posy in the future imo...

I am disappointed by the SELs. They are far too big again and an easy spot.
However, despite the QC issues and the SELs it seems to be pretty damn good.

Those scratches on the side, have you removed the plastic protectors?
