This is the first [and only] forum I googled and im not leaveing! lol I must congratulate a few people here but the rest of you are just as fab ! In 3 days i have had a 6 months education. The first day I fell in love with swiss's USED TT blue sub for 180! by the time i asked the noobie questions and sent paypall, it was gone :( i was devestated LOL. BUT he instantly refunded my money and I mean INSTANTLY!!!! Whew! off to a good start! Then I read the faq on the noobmariner! but i wanted blue/blue! it wasnt listed so i PM/ed Joshua with a ton of questions. he has the 108$ sub in blue/blue! 5 minutes later i sent paypal.:) that was today . now the wait :( I know! ill be patient , but its my first ever! Josh is a great help and so far the people I have dealt with have had impecable ethics :) Love this place , but im scared! how many REPS do each of you have ? LOL Regards THOR [the old fart ] :)

thor: you may wish to take Bytor's approach of quality over quantity. For me, I will set aside a budget each month for my replica buying purpose. As of April, I have devastated all my money pot. This is thus I keep saying I am going thru cold turkey.
If you have some budget for exploring the replica world, I would suggest you're getting an Asian movement. That you can't expect to last and may have some flaws. However, getting an ETA movement inside the rep is considered as 1 of the most worthy purchase.
Feel free to browse this forum and find out which piece that you like the most. Budgetting is very important.

4 Reps and counting. Imageshack will host a picture and you just copy the first line after you load the image. Then chose the IMG tab for the front and the back of your line that you copied. Thats it.

Hello, Thor and Welcome.

Glad to hear that you like it here. I am also glad to here that you read the FAQ (I was wondering if anyone read that thing). :D

I have 5 reps.

I limit myself through quality and a budget. I only allow so much per month to go towards reps and I try to find the very best in everything I get.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you spend all your time buying new watches you never get to enjoy the ones you already have.

Glad to have you here.

Thanks for your replies/ advice :) Yes I know quality is king , but i had to start and Joshs SS B/B sub is a great place I think :) at least its cheap lol:) YES! I want the 1 I missed! The TT B/B eta sub. Is a good one doable for < 250 and not have the gold turn quickly? been there with cheap watches, would think that in this price range I ought to be able to wear it and not have it fall apart:) or am I off base ? Any sugestions on where i should look? I will prob only get 3 . Joshes, the B/B TT, and a Panerai which brings me to the questions . lol. Who/what is a Panerai? Do they usually have rep ralex mvts?. i love thier simple understated elegance :) Note : i hate sub dials . Seconds are ok but sweep sec. is better for me . I dont even really like the date , but on a sub , i guess its inevitible. Any sugestions on the Panerai, where/ whos i should look at for quality? Prob A LUMINARI but plain works too:) Tremendus thanks for all your help , this is a teriffic comunity of people ! Regards to you all . THOR:)

If you're looking for a decent Panerai, PAM036 is a good choice. It has brown dial, thicker than usual crown, longer canon pinion (check out our dealer's section), Ti case. Or if your budget allows (~$500) you may go for PAM063 which has GMT function, powered by ETA2893. Or go and get some PAM without any subdial such as PAM002, this comes pretty cheap. Asian Manual Wind movement is pretty decent. It will last you for some times if you service it and take care of it well.

If you want a TT blue sub, I would look at Precious Time. He has one that actually has real 14kt gold links and crown. The only part that is not solid gold is the bezel.

As far as Panerai...........The reps use almost the exact same movementsas the gen watches use. If you get one with a manual wind Asian movement, they have a copy of the exact movement the gens use. If you want a history of the company, one of our members posted it Here

There are a bunch of Panerai models that you could look at. Take a look at the link below and pick a number. It doesn't list every model, but pretty close. If you find one you like, you can look the number up to find out more on the rep or ask just about anyone here. Most of us are Panerai nuts, so it is easy to find info on them. We can give you the good, the bad and the ugly on most models.

@pug: you should consider the PVD watch by davidsen. It's a good base to start a vintage PAM project.

I'm with you Pugs, I never understood what all the hype was about Panerai. I've always been more of an Omega, Sub type but made the mistake of ordering one Pam to see what all the fuss was about. It was not a good move for my watch budget. I now have two more inbound. :D

My advice to anyone starting out is to stay away from the Panerai as there is no known treatment for the addiction.

Very sound advice. My mistake was trying on a gen 114 at an AD. I was screwed the minute it came out of the case. Even the sales guy made a comment about it being a bad idea to try one on if I couldn't afford it (I was really dressed down). He told me the withdrawl was worse than a Crack Heroin Combo.

You should grab River's PAM last time. Swiss Unitas for USD135 (carbon dial, white face slytech, etc). They are fantasy/prototype model though. I am not sure whether he still has stock for that.

I still say the Silix $110 PAM 111 Unitas C is the best deal out there right now.

For PVD, Joshua hs the PAM 195 with the logo dial for around $170 with the Unitas C.

For Titanium (which Pugsy likes so much) Josh also has the 177 with Unitas C for the same price.

111 is the model number of the watch. Unitas is the movement used in the watch. C denotes that it is a Chinese copy of the movement. The reason that people say Unitas C instead of just saying Asian or Chinese movement is because sometimes they put an Asian automatic in these watches for some reason.
