Advice On Your Timepiece

ADVICE ON YOUR TIMEPIECE:
Every day:
When you set the time
* Make sure that your watch is perfectly dry.
* Move the crown carefully to make the various changes that are possible.
* Avoid changing the date between 8:00 pm and 4.00 am.
* Once the changes are made, push the crown back in and (depending on the model) screw it down against the case to preserve its water-resistance.
When you wind a mechanical watch
* When a mechanical self-winding watch is not worn for a certain amount of time, its power reserve (42 – 48 hours depending on the model) is exhausted and the watch stops. To restart it, unscrew the crown if necessary (depending on the model) and wind the movement manually by turning the crown 30- 40 times. This will give it a sufficient power reserve to function normally.
* A non-automatic mechanical watch has to be wound every day, winding is complete when you feel the crown resist. Your TAG Heuer is then wound to the maximum. It is important not to force the crown of a hand-wound watch to avoid damaging the mechanism.
When you are not wearing your watch
* Watches are affected by magnetic fields. Avoid leaving them near any equipment that can create a strong magnetic field such as speakers, refrigerators, mobile phones, etc. They can affect the performance of the watch.
* Wear a mechanical watch regularly to ensure that the lubricating oil in the movement remains fluid.
* Do not leave a flat battery in a quartz watch. Regularly check that a quartz watch is running. If it has stopped or the EOL system is activated (certain models are equipped with an End Of Life system to inform you about the condition of the battery; the seconds hand will then advances 4 seconds at a time), please contact your authorized TAG Heuer service center.
When you clean your watch
To maintain the esthetic appeal of your watch and keep it in good working order, you should clean it regularly as follows:
* First make sure the crown is fully screwed down.
* If your watch has had a water-resistance check less than one year ago, in an authorized TAG Heuer service center, use a soft brush with slightly soapy water, then rinse it with clear water and dry it with a soft cloth. If your watch strap is made of fabric, leather, alligator or python skin, take care not to get it wet.
* If you have any doubts about the water-resistance of your watch, simply clean it with a soft brush then dry it.
* Avoid contact with chemical products (solvents, detergents, cosmetics, etc.) They may damage the bracelet and the water-resistance gaskets.
Straps in fabric, leather and alligator or python skin
* Avoid all contact with water (baths, showers etc). However, despite your care and attention, leather is a natural, living material and its color will fade a little over time.
When traveling:
Airport security checks
Before going through the metal detector we recommend you remove your watch and pass it through the hand baggage scanner. Watches are sensitive to the magnetism produced by the metal detector.
Using your watch in certain environments
In a humid environment
- First make sure your watch has passed a water-resistance check during the last 12 months at an authorized TAG Heuer service center.
- Check that the crown is fully pushed in (and screwed down, depending on the model) against the case in order to preserve its water-resistance.
- We recommend that you prevent the leather strap coming into contact with water to avoid deformation or discoloration.
- For frequent or prolonged use in water, we recommend a metal bracelet or a rubber strap.
- After each exposure to salt water, rinse the watch carefully in fresh water then dry it.
- The table below indicates recommended activities according to the water-resistance of your watch. These figures are indicative only and do not correspond to a maximum depth of immersion.
In cold conditions
When in a cold environment we recommend keeping your watch on your wrist so that it remains close to body temperature. Below 0°C (32°F) the lubricating oil in the mechanism can lose fluidity, which risks damaging the movement.
In strong sunshine
- We recommend avoiding direct exposure to the sun’s rays because the temperature of the watch can rise above 60°C (140°F). This risks damaging the movement.
- Prolonged exposure to Ultra Violet rays can alter the colors of some parts (leather strap, dial etc.)
TO AVOID:
For leather, alligator, python and fabric strap
Avoid all contact with water (swimming, baths, showers etc.)
Recognize that, despite your care and attention, leather is a natural living material which will fade a little over time.
For gold-plated watches
Plating is the galvanic deposition of a fine coat of gold on certain components of the watch. This coat may be worn down by friction or by contact with hard rough surfaces.
Avoid rubbing against abrasive surfaces.
For the anti-reflective coating
The anti-reflective coating is a fine layer deposited on the crystal glass that ensures optimal readability of the dial by eliminating reflected light. This sensitive coating may be affected by friction or contact with hard, rough surfaces and can look like a scratch on the crystal glass.
Avoid shocks and harsh treatment.
Shocks
Avoid all violent shocks such as dropping the watch. Apart from damaging its appearance this can cause premature wear in materials and components which may affect the performance of the watch.
Temperatures
* Avoid exposing your watch to extreme temperatures: above 60°C (140°F) or below 0°C (32°F).
* Avoid sudden temperature changes. A sharp change of temperature can cause a slight condensation under the crystal glass of your watch. This will disappear in a few minutes and does not affect the performance of the watch. If the condensation persists, please contact your authorized TAG Heuer service center as soon as possible.
Magnetism
Avoid leaving your watch close to equipment that can produce a strong magnetic field, such as speakers, refrigerators, mobile phones, etc. They can affect the performance of the watch.
For your information, here is an extract from tests our laboratories carried out using common objects in daily life:
A magnetic field of less than 60 Gauss (unit of measurement of magnetic fields) will not affect your watch. Any stronger fields may disturb its performance.
Chemical products
Avoid contact with chemical products (solvents, detergents, cosmetics, etc.) They may damage the bracelet and the water-resistance gaskets.
