i am interested in the tag aquaracer 500m. now i was looking on hont watch and found this:
http://www.hontwatch.com/productdetails_877.html
it is only $96. is this a bad rep? from the pictures it looks like a really good rep but why is it priced so low? i also looked at perfect clones and the watch there was around $250. the perfect clones watch had a swiss movement but is that the only difference between these two?
any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Not a Tag rep expert, so there may be differences which I can't see in the build quality (apart from the movement) of the watches offered by Hont and Perfect Clones.

However, based on the price points, it would seem that, yes, the prices are due to the movements. Most rep watches that claim to have Swiss ETA are generally above $200 (although how reliable the claim is, is open for debate - it may just be an Asian eta clone), whereas you'll find the Asian 21J movement around $100. What is the difference? The Asian 21J has a lower beat than the ETA (swiss or clone) movement in the watch offered by P-Clones.

I've been looking at the Hont version as well and have asked the same question. The only input I've received so far is that (other than the movement) the front and back glass are mineral instead of sapphire. I don't see any other differences but I'm new to the replica market.

I have the same concern or I would have ordered it already. I found an RWI user who said he had one and it looked great but it would be nice if a few others gave a review as well...

ThinkBachs - thanks for the links. I had read most of those posts and refreshed my memory thanks to you posting them here in this thread. Is sounds like the Hont 21j 500m is of decent build quality.

I was hoping someone could say if going with a more expensive movement will get you a better build on the band, face, case, hands, etc. It sounds like other then the watch glass, the rest of the build of the Hont 21j watch is the same or very similar in build quality to the more expensive versions on other sites.

In your experience, have you found watches are typically the same exterior quality and its mostly the movement that causes notable price differences?...or do you find that purchasing better movement on some models also gets you a better build for the non-movement parts of the watch?

You do tend to get a better product with the more expensive reps. I have well over 20 reps ranging in price from $70 to over $400. The more expensive ones are all visibly better if you take the time to look closely at them. Just having a good AR and Lume makes a huge difference in the look of the watch.

The low end chrono's tend to have inaccurate sub-dial markings. I've had a lot more problems with the low end reps. 2 were dead on arrival and I've had to return a couple of others for problems. So far my expensive reps are all working like a charm. (note, I have had no problems with my low end quartz stuff).

Bottom line is if you want a rep that looks good from a few feet away the low end stuff will suit you fine. If you want a rep that looks good up close then get the better stuff. I would stay away from low end chrono watches and I think it's better to stick with quartz if you don't want to spend a lot. BTW, the make a gen 500M in quartz.
