Hi guys

Just trying to make up my mind weather to go for a Tag Aquaracer 500m black dial ETA http://www.puretimewatch.com/product/aquaracer-500m-calibre-5-ss-black-dial-on-steel-bracelet-eta2824/

or the Asian clone ETA http://www.puretimewatch.com/product/aquaracer-500m-calibre-5-ss-black-dial-on-steel-bracelet-a2824/

Does anyone know if there are any diffences at all apart from the movements that is. If they are the same I will go for the clone ETA me thinx.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Steve.

The whole ETA vs clone debate has been discussed at length over the past year or so, but in summary, the general consensus is that the extra money for the ETA is just not worth it. The asian clone movements are reliable workhorses, whereas you can never be quite sure if the ETA you get is a new movement, reconditioned, or a lower-grade chinese-made version (ETA did formerly make some of their base movements in the far east).

I have watches with both, and I can honestly say that there has been no difference in their timekeeping or reliability.

As for whether there are differences between the cases and other details, then I would have to say no. Naturally, it will always depend on what you're happy to pay for, but always remember that these are reps, and long before anyone gets to look at the insides, it will still be identifiable as such. If you're just after a nice watch that tells the time in a reliable fashion, get the clone. If the perception that 'Swiss movement equals better watch' is important to you, get the ETA. You may never be able to tell the difference, but it may make you FEEL better!

Yeah think I will go with the clone, as you point out it seems to have the pearling effect on the movement as per the gen. I have A clone ETA Omega and am more than happy with the movement, I wasn't really concerned about which movement to go for (prob didn't make that clear, sry my bad, was more concerned weather the clone ETA watch was possibly of a lower build quality in general. I don't think it is, looks the same chassis etc as the ETA one but have heard a few people comment on other watches that the so called "Swiss ETA" models were a better / more accurate build. Just after other more experienced peoples views before I pull the trigger, getting an itchy trigger finger
