Hi

I have been after an IWC Mark XVIII rep. And have been doing plenty of research.

I have found a few reviews and a few for sale on TD websites etc.

However I have a questions. The same TD's are selling the Mark XVIII with different movements.

Now one is with the Asian movements, the miyota movements and now I've seen the "Swiss ETA" movements also.

I don't mind paying the extra price for the Swiss movement if infact its actually worth it? I've done some research and some people suggest its not actually a Swiss movement and just the same asian movement.

The watches I am looking at are.

My question is all 3 watches are the same, with 3 different movements. Would you pay extra for the "Swiss ETA" ? If not why not etc?

Thanks for your help

Personally, I would not pay extra for the "Swiss ETA." There is no guarantee that it is a true Swiss ETA movement and on top of that, the Asian clone of the 2892 movement works fine. Unless you're worried about someone opening up the caseback, the Asian clone would work just fine. Maybe if you could be GUARANTEED that the movement is a Swiss ETA, but otherwise, I would go with the A2892 movement.

Go with the Swiss but ask for a QC to confirm. The Swiss ETA (if new Swiss) is the best out of your choices followed by Miyota 9015 and then Asian clone. I have some 9015's in both gen watches and replicas. They are quiet in my gens and noisy in the reps. You can get them to be made much quieter with some grease. The 9015 is an inexpensive but good, solid movement. The Asian clones have gotten much better over the years but do not match a genuine ETA. Good luck.

Yep. Save your money and go for the Asian 2892, you can always upgrade to the gen Swiss down the road. The miyota is a good movement but has a very noisy rotor.

Haha 3 different people and 3 different opinions, Im gauging the consensus is NOT to spend the extra and go for one of the other 2.

The problem with the Swiss ETAs in reps is that those are mostly old ones the factory got for cheap. So the likelihood of crapping out is not much different as an asian clone which is of course inferior in terms of make and materials, but at least new. The 9015 is a decent workhorse movement too, so you might as well flip a coin.

The advantage of ETA clones in my opinion is that you can just swap those out anytime later for a real ETA if you really like the watch.

True. The ETAs can not only be old but reconditioned movements pieced together from several movements. You might also get an Asian clone ETA with all the markings of an authentic ETA. However, if you get a new Swiss ETA the movement is so much smoother and the reserve so much better than a clone. I have several BKs and they are great. This is like a lot of issues involving watches, there will be a ton of different opinions.

I prefer and bought the miyota. It is a quality movement for very little money.
