Is the swiss 7753 really worth a $400 premium over the asian 7750? I'm thinking about a new PAM and I'm wondering if I should drop the $$$$$ for the swiss.

Thanks

If the movement shows engrave like the gen one, then it is worth to spend. For example of 7750 on those fly backs, the rotor show 30 Jewels, the engrave on the movement shows 25 jewels. So I'd better go for Asian 7750.

Klink, I think he's talking about the non standard 7750 arrangement where the dials have to have extra transfer gears.

If you're planning to keep the watch for a long time, I say it's worth it... However, remember that it's still a rep.. :)

good question tiresmoke. I have some eta that haven't been great, but I have 2 cheap 21j reps that I wear often and I mean they are accurate to the minute and have been with me for sometime now! They look and run like...well....clockwork.

I sometimes wonder myself if the upgrades are worth the extra $$$ too. I will add though that eta can be repaired by most jeweler if you ask upfront, but asian, not so much.

Agree 100%. If you really love the piece - as I do the 212 - then it's worth upgrading to Swiss 7750/7753, for longevity reasons. Alternatively, source a back-up asian 7750.

BTW, in respect of the comment above re the 30J (correct) vs 25J (incorrect) engraving on the Swiss 7750 - I know dealers who have the Swiss w/ correct engraving, e.g. Josh.

One last point: if you buy the Asian make sure you service it: that should increase it's chances of making it to the next service! [smilie=thumbsup.gif]

7753 movements are going to be discontinued soon. ETA seems to be throwing all their weight behind their 2894 instead, which I must admit looks damned sweet.
