Taka, I'd argue the "main tell" is the finish of the bridges, pal. ;)

I guess it depends on the person. The first thing my eyes go to is the shock system and that top plate, when I check a movement through a display back. For me it is currently the easies and fastest method, no matter what the lighting is like :)

Of course, if the top plate passes inspection, I then move onto the finish of the bridges in a well lit environment.

sorry about the poor pics , I will take some other pics again .
It's a Swiss ETA 6497-1 with better bridges .
But you know , the Swiss movt. we got now are all with wrong shock system and bigger hair spring wheel (18000 VPH) , so I replace it to incoblock system and also fix the shape , smaller spring wheel (21.6K) .
And that will make the movement looks better .
The bridges are better finished than Asian for sure , maybe I will make it better after some polish and platinum plating works .
Still trying to make the movt. looks closer to gen .

Will the smaller balance wheel work properly in an 18kbph movement? I thought that they were a specific size, to create the proper inertia. My guess is that a 6497-1 will run too fast with a smaller balance wheel.

Are you sure there is a difference in size of balance wheels for the 6497-1 and 6497-2 ? I am not doubting it, just want to know with absolute certainty, as it would help me identify what beats a few loose shock assemblies I have lying around are. :) By the way, the ones I have are all the same size, so if this is true that means they are all one particular beat, just have to figure out which one :D
