This just arrived today from the Ukraine:
DSCF0501.jpg

I am actually fairly surprised it showed up, but I figured for the price ($40 plus shipping) it was worth a chance.

This purports to be a vintage 70's soviet watch. The automatic slava movement is supposed to have a double mainspring a la Lange & Sohne, although I haven't cracked open the case to peek. I bought it because of the Russian script in the day window and the "Made in CCCP" at the bottom. So far all the windows work and it keeps great time. The seller's name is FROMUKRAINE if anyone is interested.

you better keep the caseback closed.

dont hurt yourself.

to just use the name Lange & Soehne in connection with this watch is - in my eyes - blasphemy, and should be sentenced with lifelong prohibition wearing a watch.

its good if you like it, i would rather buy a used CITIZEN or SEIKO for the money.

Love it. Good deal. I'm always afraid to buy from the old Soviet. Primarily because I don't know anyone who has. What reps do you own?

Nonsense man, the Soviets copied the flippin' space shuttle, they surely could have copied parts of a watch movement, or have used similar concepts.

Like I said, I got it because I like the russian day of the week wheel, it interests me.
That and I wanted to see if something I ordered over the internet from Ukraine would actually show up.

P.S. in no way did I mean to imply that this watch shares anything with a L&S other than they both tell time and they apparently share an odd design feature. I also apologize profusely for not putting the umlaut in Söhne.

P.P.S. I don't know if this was the right forum for this post but hey I figure it is a gen and it was under a grand, so...

P.P.P.S. I have taken apart a couple Vostoks and haven't lost an eye so it's probably relatively safe to take the back off this one. I'll wear safety glasses just in case.

i know what you mean about the day wheel being intriguing. i want a yg rolex day date with a german day wheel. no particular reason other than it is interesting to me. now if i could just come up with 25,000.00 to spend on a watch i would have it made. lmao.

thanks for posting the pictures, wear it well.

The only rep I have so far is a noobmariner my brother bought for me on a trip to China for $15. It isn't one I wear much but it did get me to thinking about buying reps.

I do have some on the way *crosses fingers*

I have a few of these Cyrillic day/date Slavas. You can pick them up for peanuts on ebay and they are excellent watches, look great, and have history which other watches can only dream of.
