Support RWI - V.I.P Avatar and Signature Graphics- by JVDAS

Having just joined RWI in the middle of the switchover from 1.1 to 2.0, I am constantly encouraged by the dynamism of this forum. It continues to serve this membership with a wealth of quality information not funded by banners /adware. I am a bit of a dinosaur ( in net terms) and was online when this sort of spirit was very much alive.

For that reason, I welcome requests for custom/ bespoke sigs or avatars from
1) admins, mods, and VIPs
or
2) members who may be considering a donation to RWI to get to VIP having sold a watch or saved themselves a whole lot of grief. All completely voluntary.

I work with the whole cs4 suite and can make banners in .swf, jpg, gif, png or whatever. Flash and animated gif are larger files unless it is full vector flash which I only do for commercial projects as it is very labour intensive. Also may not be supported due to capability of executing scripts, so either static .jpg or anim .gif

I'll try to make stuff look good (not tacky) whilst optimising filesizes to reduce bloat on the server (although I have seen many >1meg sigs here so I'm not too worried now). I am more than competent (the work below are quite hurried efforts when time permits) so am quite busy but I'll do my best if you pm me a clear brief/concept.

My style is what I call surreal and abstract realism ... cheating scale but all assembled as a pseudo realistic collage -breaking rules where 2d becomes 3d and vice versa, breaking conventions about reflections etc.I cannot express these in commercial projects that Im involved in so this is a kind of outlet for me.

As I've just joined, I have only done a few sigs and avatars but list is set to grow as getting quite a few PMs:-

AVATARS

jvd45 -
My Haloween sig-

avatar3-1.png

my usual one - name etched on movement

avatar1.jpg

fiddo -
brief was to use 2 elements black cat and PAM. Decided to have cats eyes lit up by superlumed pam 176. Resulted in v1 below

fiddoasm1.jpg

feedback by DonBrizzel to try to have a reflection which was a great idea I thought so came up with this v2 - unresized so detail can be seen in full

fiddob.jpg

SIGS - BEST viewed with UNDERGROUND default theme

jvd45 - (look out for flash > anim gif conversion v2)
earth contained within the blue cabochon sapphire of my gen Chopard

sigtrial1sm-1.jpg

watt44 -
brief was to use 2 elements omega and his love of chocolate. So I thought swiss watch, swiss chocolate and came up with :
chocolate overlay on top of omega tourbillion with alpha and omega with godiva overlay + victorianox choc -- swiss flag on iconic item in form of chocolate -ties in with swiss watch theme and in keeping with kitch of vegemite avatar

watt4-1.jpg

avenger007-
v1 (currently working on v2)
brief was to do something drum related with a seamaster/ PO with blues/ Blacks and greys
Have PO - used reflections and lighting- overlaid silhouette of DW drumkit on snare drum with drumsticks.
DW badge (Collector EDN so I had to use it, hehe ;) aren't we all watch Ho's ) given the treatment and has his unsername in the serial

av007-t2.png

v2 - as requested by Avenger himself (I prefer v1) drum badge and watch face similar size for symmetry. Larger watch face means that the bracelet cannot be shown. This in turn will affect the plausibility of a foreground layered perspective look with perspective shadows. Since 3d was out, had watch face on banner and reflection of the whole banner. Retained the badge as detached and "leaning" on banner.

av007v2.png

sharrkey-
(v1- may involve car change - update: car change not required)
brief was to use a bmw m3 (may have to change this one to sharkeys e46) so used an e92 M3 CSL - I mean I figured that while we were being aspirational may as well! :cool2:Left out M-technik badge because anyoue who sees the grille and splitter will know its an M car its that iconic. Numbers of crazy hours floating around watchface. Tourbillion closeup and watch. No reflection - opacity change. I call this my slick - poster graffitti style.

sharrkey-saturated.png

coop-
brief was to use a sub and an SD. (took creative licence and selected a 50th anni and a DSSD. Coop is an admirer of the lovely Ms. Christina Ricci (translation:- he is an uber superfan who is currently stalking her :screwed: j/k mate.. hehe ... ) and as such made the bezel into eye shape. Also Pearl has Ms Ricci's eye overlaid looking at our fan. I initially had superlumed the pearl and it looked spot on with a nice glow but didnt lend itself well to overall colour scheme.

coop.png

747-
brief was to have a sepia'd old biplane (which isnt old really- its a current model) with some newer planes and some briets. I created torn paper from scratch in photoshop and used the following elements... wanted old place on 2d with newer ones flying out. Got a biplane, a 747 ;) and the brietling lockheed. For watches, a navi ( spot the 747 on the slide rule?) and the new B-01 was used... am looking forward to it really.. because of its landmark movt. it may be my first gen briet.. no sure atm. Lovin my BCE v3 atm! 747 is one of the most gen guys out there on this board and it was a real pleasure coming up with this for him.

anopsis- v2
OK so anopsis asked me for a sig and it was recently his birthday as you know so I finally got it done. He wanted a 1911 revolver from wilson combat ( they make some very fine firearms) and a egi so I had a hand wearing an egi, egi as bg and the guns.. interesting with the bullets that they are of a larger scale than watch- breaking all the rules. gun is 2d while bullet resting against it is 3d.. another contradiction. Had fun with this one ! Hand and gun photoshopped but watch on wrist wasnt... :) Happy B'day again mate -(edit:- added .com on v2)

anopsis-v2-1.png

btw , if you have your own pic and it is not working I wrote a quickguide here:-

Good work jvd!

I echo your sentiments entirely; in fact, I was also trying to think of a way of giving back to this community in a non-monetary form, and as a graphic designer myself, I thought about offering a similar service. My web expertise is distinctly lacking though, so it may well be that I ask YOU to do mine in the near future! ;)

I think you joined around the same time as me so I've noticed little bits of your work here and there, and I like your style. Keep me posted on other work you do; I'm always keen to see a fellow creative's work being useful.

Just added:- sharrkey's sig v.1 - scroll to top pg 1

@ L , yes that would be golfing, although I had to leave something for the Mrs. to do by herself. Then I could sneak away woth the lads. hehehe
Nice getaway and break for the both of us. Was a spectacular deal as well and we saw monty and pavin play a publicity event for the ryder cup next year. Loads of limos and helicopters decended upon us. TV crews also from sky.

Well as I said in a PM to you Sharrkey, I am gratified by your enthusiasm and appreciation. Glad you are thrilled.

@ DB thanks for the praise - we are in danger of becoming a mutual fan club

@alvinado - cheers bruv, I am gonna deliver more -pushing the envelope. My first efforts were constrained by filesize. This is larger but still smaller than quite a few that Ive seen on RWI so I thought what the heck- make it look nice.

@mackeim - thanks mate. I'm glad you think its 3d, I had to try to make it look that way from a lot of 2d objects. The idea is also present in the avenger007
sig that I did before this.

I should have replied sooner, but I'd like to publicly thank JVD for his incredible work. He's currently working on V2 of my sig, but the first one is so awesome, I had to put it out there till the other one is finished. It's great to have a talent like his on the forum, and even more so to have someone who wants to give back so generously. I like posting just to see the sig. Big thanks, JVD!!!!
