I was wondering how some of you guys switch out the buckles on straps that have the buckles sewn in.

Please let me know.

Thanks!

Joe

Pick one:

...using a pair of steel cutters

OR

..unsew it, remove buckle, hope you know how to saddle stitch afterwards

And no, I'm not being sarcastic ;)

I gave up the thought of replacing them buckles long time ago
I have a couple of MPs with sewn-in buckles, and trust me, it does not matter if the buckle is polished/brushed...

if it's pvd'ed you have a diff problem :D

You can find the your local leather guy in the mall and he should be able to unstitch, swap buckles and stitch again.

Maybe I should try this... or I should really just break off the steel buckle... don't really need it I guess :)

Thanks,

Joe

May I ask why you would want to switch out a sewn in buckle? A sewn in buckle is MUCH stronger than any other type. And is more genuine on vintage models.

Unstitching really isn't an option, especially if you have a permanant keeper on the strap. Either way you would have to rip the connection piece apart and that strap would never be the same. A sewn in buckle is meant to be permanant.

Buy a different strap

Works for me every time!! Greg, Europelli, Ammo, Savage, TC of course!! Don't cut out nice buckles that are otherwise in great shape!!

Hi,

I am getting a PVD and TI watch and the polished SS buckle will look funny, IMO. I will see how they look together first though.

I think IMHO the answer would be the strap has pretty much done or u don't like the strap but just the buckle and u want to put the buckle onto nicer tailor made straps.

I really like Savage's new stitchless strap as well. This may be the best answer :)

The simple answer here is that if the buckle type is going to be an issue, you custom order your straps. SMAT, Greg Stevens, Shane Delaurian, Elliot, HKTan, the list of places to get straps without buckles goes on and on.

I believe one of the overseas strap makers, I just can't remember which one, offers the option of choosing a Ti buckle. I think Greg Stevens does now, as well.

Just don't mention replica watches...

On my straps, if you desire to change out buckles, I send it without a buckle. If you like sewn-in buckles, I have these GPF Mod Dep style buckes in both 24 and 26mm. Obviously, the buckles can be used on either stitched or stitchless straps.

Here it is on a strap:

Let me know if I can be of service.
