Some info you may find useful on the series changes and correct combinations (polished versus brushed crown guard, movement decoration, sandwich versus filled/painted dial).

By "historic luminors", i mean 000, 005, 111, 112, 113, 114, 176 and 177, though this info is mostly accurate for the 111 and not applicable to others (e.g., 113 white face never has a sandwich dial, nor does the 005, and some were not produced for the A-D series..such as the 113 or 177...and the 111 was the PAM1 for the A-D).

Anyway, I hope you find this useful.

A-D series (1998-2001):
-Filled-in dial (Tritium or Luminova)
-Solid caseback
-Undecorated OP II movement
-Polished crown guard
-Ardillon buckle

E-F series (2002-2003):
-Filled-in dial (Luminova)
-Sapphire display caseback
-Decorated OP XI movement (PANERAI wording)
-Polished crown guard
-Ardillon buckle

G series (2004):
-Filled-in dial (Luminova)
-Sapphire display caseback
-Decorated OP XI movement (PANERAI wording)
-Brushed crown guard (and larger than previously series')
-Ardillon buckle

H-I series (2005-2006):
-Sandwich dial (Luminova)
-Sapphire display caseback
-Decorated OP XI movement (cote de geneve)
-Brushed crown guard (same as in G-series)
-Pre-V style buckle

@panman
You could at least give some credit to a 'paneristi' that put the original post together on Paneristi Trading forum yesterday... 8)

cheers,

though i'd have to look for the post again :)

i was actually going to link to the paneristi post, but then thought the info would be more useful if it is all in one place here to view without linking away, so i did the quick copy and past...i certainly didn't mean to take "credit" for it (not that i'd care either way - i just consider it consolidated product info).

Something else to consider is that some of the watches (like the 005) have never come with a display caseback, regardless of what series...
