I've seen a lot of good shiny black croc straps on the 380 but not a lot of pictures with matte black or black JV nubuck or hornback

Hmm yeah after thinking about it, I've decided that nubuck is no good for me, as I've ruined it before.

How did you ruin it? It's supposed to patina pretty significantly. Here's what mine looks like after 6 months:
