I know everyone always talks about poorly aligned rehaut is a dead give away... but isn't no rehaut just as big of a tell?

I would think is someone is to take a quick glance and your watch, and notice the engraving, they might not think much of it. But if they look and see nothing, thats an even bigger sign, no?

Im a big amateur when it comes to reps, I am definitely still learning something new everyday, but for those that arent aware of how the rehaut is supposed to be aligned, like myself before RWI, having it regardless of alignment would be a good thing.

Ill post some pics soon. I have a pair of sub'c and Im taking them both apart to create the best single watch I can, given the parts I have.

I never knew rehaut was bad until I joined here, I believe anyone who is not a rep forum member doesn't know what bad rehaut is either.

Strodda, keep in mind there are tons of gen Subs without engraving, this only started in the past few years, but of course all SubCs will have it.

Post some pics when you get it all put together be nice to see what you got there.

My gen GMT 2 C that I bought in 2008 had the engravings but I never knew to sit there & look at a rep to see if it was engraved appropriately........I would say 99% of the public wouldnt know, jmo. I thought the rehaut on the gen was cool looking & an added look that made it look nice.

To tell you the truth, i always thought Rolex put the engravings there to make it harder for reps........

They did, actually.
And judging by the lack of acurracy with most rehaut engraving, I'd say they succeeded....sort of.
Valid points have already been made. The Sub-C would have engraving and it's not likely many will spot the inacurracies as it's difficult to see when on the wrist. Some rep engraving is actually pretty good. If it's not to noticably wrong and you can live with if it is, I'd say leave it :) (but it's personal preferrence)

Taking some pics right now. I have the worst luck with this. I have a black and blue subc, but the cases are slightly different. Both bezel inserts will fit on the original blue sub, but the crystal from the black wont fit on the blue case. So I was going to put the blue insert on the original black case so I can use the crystal of choice, but the insert wont fit... slightly too large. So Im back where I started now. At least I know how to take them apart now.

And to top it all off, when pressing the crystal back in, I cracked the blue insert, because Im a fuckin moron. :lolcina:

Anyways, here is how it sits right now. The black insert and blue dial is just sitting in the box as spare parts for now. I had originally purchased them this way, but swapped them back to all blue/black. But I like the blue, I just didnt want to wear an all blue sub since it obviously isn't a $30k white gold watch... so I went back to the black sub with a blue insert for a little color.

I can live with the inaccurate rehaut, but I wanted to swap since I thought I had an option. What I do want is a better crystal with ar'd cyclops.

here are both crystals. I wanted to use the one on top with the flatter sides, but it curved in on the bottom edge and was too loose for the case.

Guys, the rehaut is the ring the engraving is on, not the engraving itself. You can't have a sub with no rehaut but you can have one with a non engraved rehaut. Remember, any sub more than about five years old will have a blank rehaut, the engraving is a reasonably recent addition.

Are there ceramic subs without rehaut engraving? If not, I could shave the rehaut and install a different insert.

WTF the ceramic cracks that easy?? I thought it was more durable. That stinks man.

Are they still using double sided tape to hold the bezel inserts in place, or is it glued in, or does it snap into place??

apparently it does =(

and both were held in with sticky tape. Outside of a macro shot, its not very noticeable at all... at a glance, about as noticeable as the shotty rehaut engraving. These are my practice watches now. I really want a new one some day with a highbeat movement.

This is why I don't like the ceramic bezels. I just don't believe its a qulaity ceramic being used, I don't like the idea of tape being used, and I don't like the painted and filled in numbers on it.

I think you'd be much happier with a regular bezel instead, much easier to work with as far as swtiching out, replacing, and not cracking.

Ya those ceramic insets are super brittle to up and down bending, they will snap very easily. To get them off I tear the watch down and drop it almost boiling water. It separates the tape glue and comes off with a razor very easily. Don't leave it in the water too long though.

How about just popping out the movement then heating with a blow dryer to get it to soften up? Never tried myself, but was wondering.

BTW, I like that selector switch position.....

Afraid not. The 116610's all come with engraved rehaut. Changing the insert is certainly an option, as is finding a better crystal.
The ceramic bezels are what I never cared for (nor the maxi-dial) due to their shiny appearance and being so delicate.
The thin, painted 16610 inserts are on the verge of being too delicate for me to wear daily as well. That's why my favorite is the 16570 Exp.II with it's durable solid SS bezel :)

For me:
Doesn't seem to work as well on the ceramics that it does on the metal inserts. Don't ask me why but every one I tried with the blow dryer cracked. I just decided to try the water and it worked pretty good. Might be a better way though. Not sure if others have tried something different. Would love to hear if they have.
One good thing about the boiling water method, after I pull the watch out, I end up making deviled eggs. Lol
