Nearer than you think
Hello guys,

I'm writing this post to talk about something I noticed today. I happened to have in hand 2 amazing two tone modern 126XXXs, a GMT root beer and a black dial Submariner, both stunning and amazing on the wrist, very nice presence and quite shiny.

I prefer the rose gold GMT over the yellow gold Sub, but I have to admit that both of them pop!

While comparing them i noticed that the cyclops are not the same: the GMT shows blue AR coating and a blue reflection on its cyclops, while the Sub shows brown AR and a brown reflection on its cyclops.
Also, the Sub seems to have a more pronounced Halo effect around the cyclops, while the GMT shows a less pronounced Halo effect, similar to the VSF crystals I've seen around.

My question is, do all the126xxx subs have brown AR coating? Or does it depend on the year or on the model (Steel, two tone, etc...)? What about the GMTs?

What color is the AR present in the VSF 126xxx Subs?

The two of them next to the other:

I've recently bought a 116610 gen crystal and have brown AR coating.

My 126610 VSF ar coating hasn't a predominant color.

Nice to know! I know that the most recent 116610 crystals had blue AR, but after seeing the new 126610s having brown AR i was wondering what the hell was going on there.

I'll check my DJ 126234 and see the color of the AR, but i'm pretty sure is very similar to the GMT, the Halo effect is minimal on that DJ

You are asking about gen crystals primarily right?

I have read that Rolex does not make its own, so that would imply there would be different batches as in all parts manufacture.

See item 10, although the article is a few years old.

https://www.ablogtowatch.com/10-thin...everal%20years

I don't think there are any specific crystal characteristics that are tied to any certain models or years (like color of tint or halo prominence), but rather it would seem more likely that all models requiring a certain type of crystal (black hole cyclops) would be fitted with the current batch that met minimum quality specifications.

Regarding the 126610's, it was publicized that for the first time they would be getting the entire underside AR coated and not just in the footprint under the cyclops like in the past.

So all the 126610 crystals would had to have come from a batch different from all others before it, which could explain why no others have the same tint color.

Yeah, in order to see if there's any difference between the gen AR and the rep AR color.

IIRC the last 116610s had blue AR tint, so I was wondering what was the point of going back to a brown AR coating, but it must be because of what you said, that the whole underside of the glass is AR coated (even if IRL there's basically no difference between the GMT and the Sub, the blackhole is still there and the same can be said for the Halo effect, which is stronger in the 126610s). The only noticeable difference, as i said, and it was the first thing that caught my eye, was the difference in color for the coating and the different intensity of the Halo effect.

I should be getting a VSF 126610 soon and i'll make a comparison in order to see what color the crystal AR is, and confirm the level of Halo effect :)

Yep, the 116610 gen crystal does have a blue tint reflection.

My gen and VSF 116610LN have a blue reflection, too. My Noob 126610LN has perfect antireflection but no colour whatsoever.
