I'm planning on getting a PAM 112m from Trevor for $235 but the strap that comes with it has to go. Then I stumbled onto this strap which I think would make for a very handsome pairing, but it costs half as much as the watch. :picard:

I really don't want to spend that much on a strap but so far I haven't found one quite like it that for me would be as perfect. Does anyone have this strap or has anyone bought an expensive strap for their rep?

What kind of strap are you looking at? You can take a look at the Strap For Sale section on the forum, good deals there ;)

....... Does anyone have this strap.......

What strap?

Pretty much all my straps are $100 plus straps. It goes with the territory when you start collecting Panerai.

There are $300 plus straps out there. And yes, we are all doing it. There are great deals in the strap section from time to time.m;)

I'm really a noob (not the factory) when it comes to rep watches so this is all new to me.

Its ok to buy a expensive strap. You can always put it on another watch that you buy in the future.

This phenomenon is unique to Panerai I would say
Panerai becomes an expensive rep because many owners have $600 worth of straps for each $250 rep
You need 4 straps or so for each one

I'm starting to learn that what seems like it could be a relatively affordable hobby can end up being very expensive once it comes to mods and everything else. I'd never even heard of Panerai or a lot of the other watch brands until I found this and some other rep watch forums and truthfully I didn't see the appeal of Panerai at all either. Now all I can think about is a 112 with this strap http://k-straps.com/Shrapnel-Series.php lol

I got a few reasonable straps just searching eBay. All things considered. I think they look pretty nice.

put it this way - if the watch was its usual price PLUS the price of the new strap would you still buy it .... I will answer this question myself (because I am an idiot)

:D

As a newbie rep hobbyist - no

As a seasoned rep hobbyist who loves wearing his watches and intends keeping them for life HELL YEAH! Whatever it takes to get it as right as I can to know I will enjoy owning it over the long haul

... but MAN I get where your'e coming from! A complex machine like a watch, compared to a couple of bits of leather and steel .... c'mon! (said in the voice of Gob Bleuth from Arrested Development)

has anyone bought an expensive strap for their rep?

I am in the same boat-bought my first rep, a PAM390 a few weeks ago and waiting on this to go with it :

Kain Heritage Gator- $130 strap to go on a $270 watch. Just goes with the territory!

Remember also- many many gen PAM owners play the aftermarket strap game too-so to my mind a great, high-dollar strap goes quite a way toward making your rep play the gen part even better!

That's a good point. I was thinking that a $130 strap for a $5,200 gen watch is a no-brainer, but for a $235 rep it doesn't make much sense. BUT if it can pass for the gen for 7% of the price maybe it does make sense.
