I wanted to check with the experts here. I have a gen nubuck which does have a stain near the top lug (photo below). If I am correct in my reading, the best way to lighten it (I know I can't remove it completely, but some darkened area adds to the patina) is to use a suede brush/eraser. Would that be my best bet vs. using a spray cleaner of some type (which I would guess the spray cleaner will make things worse and the stain is really not in a prominent location).

Any assistance is appreciated.

thanks!

It's natural patina - leave it...
If you insist; depending on the origin of the blemish, you can leave the strap in lukewarm water and dishsoap for a couple of hours, rub lightly and then leave to dry (slowly)....

thanks. The previous owner said it was a foodstain and it looks like it settled quicker than they could remove it. Will the lukewarm water soak cause the remaining portions of the strap to darken?

Not after drying up - on the contrary: The soap will most likely remove some excess colour from the dye.
Apply vaseline (oil) to patinize accordingly...
