Hello chaps,

I have been reading in various forums on reps for a while now and find this one very interesting. I seem to have acquired a small collection of reasonably priced watches, mainly Seikos, and realised that I really enjoy wearing different ones for different occasions, from going out to the pub to playing golf. Reps would be the next logical step to enlarging my collection. I certainly have never entertained buying a genuine expensive watch, as I would sooner buy a car. But I like the idea of appearing to have something expensive on my wrist, even for a laugh. I guess everyone has different motives for buying reps and there certainly does seem a wide expanse of opinion on this forum and others. I just have one question, or rather I am seeking confirmation of what is probably a dumb request. From everything that I have read, I am assuming that the actual mechanics of ordering a watch from one of the dealers (I have Ruby in mind), requires an email to be sent to her and she then sends you info on how to pay her etc. Would this be correct? Thanks for any replies.

Cheers
Dan

Hello Dan,
I hope you understand that once you get involved in this hobby of rep collecting it is like a crack habit. I was amazed at how quickly I amassed a collection of reps. As far as dealing with Ruby she is great. Go to her location in the dealer section here and under "Announcements" look at her policy section. It will tell you everything you need to know about dealing with her. Once again welcome to the dark side. Final warning turn back now! Ha Ha!

Welcome Dan. Whatever the motives are glad you are here but I suppose you would rather be on the course playing a round eh? It's nice to see another watch and golf enthusiast. This is a great hobby but you will need a lot of humor to get you through the madness..but it's all worth it. Enjoy. :D

Thanks for your welcome lads, but your scaring me now. I have about 50 golf clubs from that particular obsession (and I don't get much better). Have emailed Ruby and she's ready to take my order..oh dear!

Cheers

Hi Paneraifreak,

Would be nice if it was home, but no it was taken on vacation. The place was Praia da Luz on the Algarve where I have visited many times. Unfortunately has had some pretty bad publicity lately with the little girl Madeleine being abducted. Is still big news in the UK, but not sure about the rest of the world.

Hey dan,

welcome to the club!

you'll find it addicting that you can get very accurate watches for a fraction of the cost. Quite an enjoyable hobby, and who knows? you might find one that you love so much that you'll buy a gen? :)

either way, this hobby still hurts the wallet :)

welcome to the community, you'll find lots of people here with different backgrounds but similiar interests and quite knowledgeable.

Thanks Crick for your welcome. Yes, I see what you mean. If I had a wallet it would be starting to display flu like symptoms now. I am just waiting for some payment info from Ruby and have just read the latest active topic on some poor guy who has had a bad experience with her, so far anyway. This is strange, as I have read nothing but good things about her, so will follow that thread for a while, before completing my order.

Cheers
Dan

Just wanted to chime in with a welcome, too, Dan. I was you two months ago, and now I am too embarrassed to mention how many rep watches I have to my name.

Let's just say that a lot of the watches arrived with QC issues, but that has rarely blunted my desire to continue in our chosen hobby path. When you are, as you put it well, a watch enthusiast your appreciation for these items may wane, but it'll never wax. ;)

Never having ordered from Ruby, I can't tell you anything about her, but from what I know she's fantastic, professional, fast overall. It seems the downside is that she clams up when something goes wrong, which charitable others attribute to her lack of fluency in English.

As you say below, keep your eyes open, and certainly your brain nimble. I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun in the meanwhile. :)

Victoria

Thanks a lot for your info Malumouse. I will check out Angus, once I receive my first watch - just ordered from Ruby. There seems to be quite a variation in price with the different dealers, so will have to order a few more for comparison haha.

Thanks for your welcome Victoria. Yes, I have been reading a recent active thread with some poor chap who received a watch DOA from Ruby and now is having problems after sending it back and still receiving a bad one. But I'm optimistic that the Tag I ordered will be great and will have faith in her policy section, which seems to cover every eventuality. Hope you're enjoying life in the USA. Have a brother who's been in San Francisco since 1982 - don't think he'll be back now.

Cheers
Dan

Welcome to the forum. :D

It sounds like you are already on your way. As you have found out, the secret is to read, read, and then read some more.

Understand that for the most part, problems are rare. Ruby is a good dealer that has proven herself over the past couple of years. Everything should be fine.

Also, if you look throught the dealer sections, you will find a couple that are local to the UK.

Enjoy the forum.

It started of with 'I need a replacement for the Tag I lost... and I don't want expensive gens'...

Then it progressed to 'a 2nd rep won't kill...'

Then to 'Now I have a rollie (rep) and a pannie (rep), I don't have an IWC (rep) yet...'

and before I knew it, its now...

'I'm just two more watches to complete my wishlist... (for now)'

Thanks to wonders of global TV, BBC World, SkyNews, CNN etc. we are able keep upto date with dear old Blightly.

I am sure that we cannot really understand the pain and suffering that Madeleine and her family are enduring. I, like many others have followed the case closely and I pray for her safe return

Don't really have a wish list Seraphe, just jumping in with both feet (and wallet). Just deciding on what to do about a Rolex at the moment. Silex looks the best bet for price that I can see and the quality looks good from the photos. Any recommendations from your experience.?

Hi Felipe, yes thought the story of Madeleine might be world news. The parents are coming home now and we all still hope that she has just been abducted by a childless couple and someday they will be reunited.

Thanks for the welcome
Dan

Welcome to the forum Dan. Collecting reps is a fantastic hobby and quite stimulating.

BTW no doubt you have heard this one...

What did Mick Jagger say when he walked into the room and saw Hugh Hefner having sex with Dennis Weaver?

"Hey....Hugh....Get Offa Mcloud"

McCloud? Is he the guy who patrolled the streets on a horse? I remember seeing Dennis Weaver's house once outside of Ridgway,Colorado...it was made of recycled cans and bottles.

Haha - always thought Hugh Hefner would have sex with anything/anyone. Denis Weaver aka Marshall McCloud did indeed ride the streets of New York on a horse (daft but true) - probably picking up a lot of beer cans and bottles for his new house.

Thanks Matt for the welcome. Have already ordered 4 watches, so will have to slow down a bit. But will have a look at TWP on your recommendation. I can feel a 5th watch coming on.
