At last they had a Panerai 232 47mm on display there at the Tourneau. It was $6100.00 and I tried it on for size. It is really a beautiful watch.

It is difficult to tell that the dial is a tobacco brown, as it seems like a gray/black. The overall feel and look of the watch made the rep I have seem, well, not quite up to snuff. The sandwich dial on the gen is much more pronounced and the lugs are more streamlined and contoured closer to the body of the watch.

My rep is not from Davidsen, which I suspect is a cut above the earlier version I have, but the issue with the lugs is a dead giveaway and needs to be addressed. I'm afraid my rep 232 is going to have to go into the box for the time being.

BTW...while trying on the 232 I took off my fiddy and placed it on the velvet display pad which elicited much admiration from the consultants there.. :D

How does the hour and minute hands look like? I got the black dial version as well. Nevermind if the dial looks borwn or grey. What puzzle me was that DSN told me the supelled hands on my rep (which look like dagger) is incorrect. But Panerai website catalogue shows the same supelled hands used.

So... which one is correct? Supelled or no supelled hands for PAM232???

Anyone??? [smilie=icon_scratch.gif]

Thanks

i also had ordered a 232 from davidsen recently. I've seen a few on paneristi that they come with the fiddy hands even though panerai shows dagger hands. The one i received from DSN was ordered with the black dial/fiddy hands as i like it better. when the sun hits the dial, it's a greyish black. i like it better than the tobacco brown.....DSN is too light.

The associates at LV Tourneau are woefully uneducated. I walked in there last year with two friends, one had on a gen. Yachtmaster, the other a really bad fake PAM (shiny PVD, CF dial!! , no AR coating). I mean the thing is BAD, but he just likes wearing it (he has had many gens). I was wearing a gen, first edition Breguet Type XX Aeronavale (pre-SWATCH era).

All the associates started nudging each other when we walked in and I whispered to my buddy how he is busted, they think all are watches are fakes now..

one of the sales guys approches us, makes a be line for the guy with the PAM, and starts gushing about how awesome the watch is, how we need to come see teh PAMs they have, how he's vever seen such a beautiful model before and that he would definitely take it as a trade in on anything in the store. I was floored. As we were walking out they were nudging each other and pointing to his watch like it was the holy grail itself.

Agree, I must as they do not hire their staff based on knowledge of watches rather sales ability. They are given a cursory crash course on what makes a watch tick and the general astethics of the time pieces. There are exceptions, and Torneau has a number of staff who know a great deal. Not that their lack of expertise is any issue for me, the inventory they carry is the largest of any AD and for a watch afficienado to walk in there for a look, well it is about as close to watch heaven as one can get in a retail store.

There were prototype 232's that were released with RXW hands. The correct hands are 'Fiddy" style hands, although a slightly shorter version.

The 232 is considered to be a tribute to the 3646 Radiomir, and as such, they were available with RXW hands.

@Niko

Thanks for the info. Are you saying that since the RXW hands are of prototype batch, there are limited pcs which are released. So, how many RXW hands and fiddy hands are made for this special edition model??

Thanks

Yes, a Davidsen fiddy. :D

I'd love to see that 232 mate!

I took my highly modded Fiddy [not my DSN] into Tourneau in NY on 57th and the rep saw it and said, "You made a good investment there ...", I replied, "you have no idea .."

No probs though - I even had an OEM strap on it, the wine coloured calf like this:

There were 1938 pieces of the 232 released worldwide, aswell as a number of prototypes.

I expect that all of the pieces sold through Panerai Dealers had the Fiddy hands unless a customer specifically requested RXW hands.

Panerai released debut pics of the 232 with RXW hands, but they have been as a tribute to the 3646 and Pam 21.

Last time I was in Tourneau in Las Vegas was June...some guy was trying on a bunch of Omega watches, he had a pam on a rubber strap sitting there on the counter.

LV Tourneaus is a candy store for a watch nut. I was there every spare moment our last trip to Vegas. I didn't buy anything but was tempted...
