I recently had my Grandfather's Star Dennison Hunter pocket watch serviced. I believe that my Grandfather obtained it before the First World War so around 1910, he carried it daily for 50 years before his death in the 1960's. The watch was passed on to my Father and has pretty much been unused and stored away since then. I recall my Father telling me, in the 1970's, that it no longer worked so I asked if I could open it up and check the movement, which I did. I found a tiny piece of metal stuck between the teeth on one of the wheels and managed to carefully remove it, fortunately the movement sprung into life again. Recently my father asked if I could get it serviced because it was no longer running for 24 hours after being wound up, I had it serviced by a local watch-smith and it now runs for about 32 hours and it is also keeping good time.

The movement is Swiss made with 15 jewels in a Star Dennison, gold plated, watch case, which was made in England. The case was guaranteed for 10 years.

These particular watches seem to have been produced in the thousands going by the number of them still available on eBay etc.

Does anyone know the history of these watches, who the movement was made by etc.

My father is in his nineties and it would be nice to be able to advice him of its history when I return it to him.

The only information that I've found on the www shows a very similar watch but that one has a manufacturers name on the movement, I'll link it below.

Antique Criterion full Hunter Pocket Watch

There are obviously a lot of very knowledgeable folk on this forum so I'm hoping that someone will be able to advise me.

Thanks
