There are few if any times when a person sporting a $40,000 watch will be wearing anything but the best of designer clothing, No Kmart sneakers or Shoes R US shoes. Or Walmart brand jeans. If you are going to rock a $40,000 watch such as a Patek Nautilus you have better no be stepping out of an old Ford Focus.
People who wear that level of watch enjoy that level of sophistication in every area of their lives. Anyone can wear a $6000 Rolex Sub and not have the best threads. Or a $5000 Brietling and shop at Wal Mart, Those watchs are a dime a dozen. relatively inexpensive and in Rolex case usually an investment that pays off after holding the watch for five years when their $6000 watch new from a GM dealer is worth that and more as the new model reaches $8500. Not too many watches hold their value like that and are accepted world wide as a form of currency,
So before dropping the $380 on a rep $40000 watch look at the rest of your lifestyle. If it does not match up your watch will stand out like a bad hair piece. If a friend just happens to look up that Nautilus on the Internet and sees $40,000 They might all have a good laugh,
Personally my lifestyle supports a $6000 watch so I can get away with a $5000 Hulblot Rep. I have a rel Rolex No Date though. So I am comfortable telling people the hublot is a REP. and why. Because a $5000 Hulblot has no used market so it becomes a $2000 watch real fast,
A 1997 Rolex Sub can be sold for $5000 MORE than it's original cost,
That is ROLEX MARKETING......Just like Harley Davidson More marketing than watch. AS much as I like the Smurf Rolex (Solid White Gold Blue face SUB) I will never buy a rep of one. The rest of my kit would not support it.
Just something to keep in mind with this hobby. Like anything it can be overdone. Buy the reps you can afford in real life and you won;t likely be questioned or judged. BE the complete package. Put it all in perspective.
If you see one of your apartment dwelling $40K earning maybe married friends rocking even a Rolex President, while his no rep hobby wife wears a Timex.......what would you think? IS that guy going to spend a year's salary on a watch? highly unlikely.
