saw this from tetzumaru in the shoutbox:

http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.p ... 855&page=2

read it and now am curious who's this "mod from a rep forum", fakebuster?

also, isn't dan donnelly a member here?

also, also, i found it very amusing that the only 1-2 persons, it seemed, who could spot the dssd v3 on TRF was likely the rep ppl. just goes to show, members, that alot of rollie owners are no different from the 99% of the population who couldn't spot it either...

holy crap. that was not the smartest thing to do, for himself, for our forum, for the rep community.

though, i must say, why even draw attention to it publicly, fakebuster? how does that help us? those ppl had no clue n the thread would've eventually been forgotten n lost in the masses of pictorials. i agree that the OP was patently unwise, doing the web version of going into an AD to try to fool them. but a simple PM to him would've sufficed, i should think.

the one thing to take comfort in was that once it was called out, the righteous indignation that poured out at TRF was pretty comical in light of the fact that they all conveniently forgot that they didn't have a clue prior. they appear to be unshakeably convinced of the superiority of their products' appearance, which is good. if they were scared or felt truly threatened by how good the reps are getting, then it could lead to problems...

yup, he admits to joining only to "put a stop to this". n this FB, who apparently is hounddoggie, hasn't really been called to task regarding why he chose to handle it this way (i.e. publicly, i/o in a PM). yes, he gets to embarrass 'the faker' and get kudos as 'the fake-buster', but that seems trifling against the obvious harm n risk it puts rwi in. yet nobody's gotten into it...

n the OP is getting some flack on his original thread (rooster wrote he can't believe he didn't get banned), but not nearly as much as i would've thought...
he IS a lucky lad...

This thread just proves what I say in my Sig. We are the only ones who really care. No one else is going to know.

what fakemaster said.. +1

Guys,, all of you likely know more about these brands than 98% of those who sell them... why does it surprise you that genuine collectors are the same?

This is ridiculous. I am not a white knight to anyone. I clearly outed myself on the Rolex forum and here so that I wasn't a mystery. Maybe DanD. would have outed himself eventually. maybe a pm prior would have taken care of the matter privately but I choose to do it quickly. It is just one of those things that really isn't necessary in this hobby. We all know how good the reps are. We also know the the gen owners can be fooled. Why- because they really don't care. They bought their watch at the AD and they know what they have. They don't need to study the nuiances of their watches. The don't need to know what v1, v2, v3, etc means. They don't care.

So it starts at trying to fool the gen forum. What is next? Trying to fool the ebay or craigslist buyers. I am NOT saying that DanD would ever do this.

I agree with k that "Fakebuster" could have done this better. He could have given the maverick poster the opportunity to pull his pics, come out clean, apologise, and move on. It wasn't handled as well as it could have been and FB's reaction was rushed and probably incorrect. That's just my opinion of course.

I support Houndoggie.

Hindsight has always perfect vision. It was wrong for DanD to pass of his fake as a gen. Maybe a simple post that said 'That's a fake' would have sufficed, doesn't matter in the end. The best thing that the rep world members can do is point out fakes that are being portrayed as gens. Houndoggie kept in the spirit of this.

Rep members have the best knowledge of the fakes, it's by obligation we should oust these fakes. It;s people portraying fakes as gens that do real harm to the watchmakers name, the rep world and the gen owner. If only entry to rep membership required a minimum requirement in common sense.

posting a rep on a gen forum is only going to cause problems for everyone in the end. And the last thing you want to do is attract attention back to RWI or any of the replica forums. These gen guys get PISSED OFF when they get fooled and i dont blame them. Good job fakebuster or whoever you are. You did the right thing.

Good Post!!! And throw in AD's on that too! It doesn't matter if they are "friends of my mother" or "my doggy's best buddy" or whatever. If you have even two neurons left in your brain(?) try not to be a Total Fool and kill the golden goose.

I can't believe all the threads on here from wise guys who flaunt their reps (or even wear them) in gen stores; and then come on here and brag about it? They must not even have their drivers license yet.

To be sure, no one is debating that. What is questionable was not the intent, but the means. Knowing that Dan was an RWI forum member, Fakebuster could have perhaps PMd him here, and given him the opportunity to come clean on TRF. I feel that posing as a fakebusting paladin on TRF was not the most sensible way to go about it, especially for the rep community. Simple as that. No one is arguing the fact that something had to be done.

I am the idiot that got all of us in this mess...I have since learned a valuable lesson. I just want to say that what fakebuster did was exactly what was needed. He gave me a way out..saved my butt. Good job to him and I hope that my stupid mistake will teach others new to the rep world that reps are for our personal enjoyment not to fool others.
