OK So I'm after a B&R03-92 but these come in so many movement types and all i would like is something reliable, that keeps good time and post importantly looks as close to gen as poss. I know some movements make the case bigger/thicker so can someone please tell me the diff?

Theres the 21J, the 4813 and the 2836.... can someone please shed some light/recommendations.

i think I had the 21j which is a low beat and I didn't really like it so I'm after 4813/2836?

Its great you have a choice, looks like the cosmetics of the watch is identical unless someone can say otherwise. The 21J version would be a good buy if you are interested in doing a genuine eta swap later - easy to do yourself. If you just want a toy then pay pay a bit more for the Asian high beat version. It will be almost identical in terms of function and reliability as the reconstructed 'Swiss'.

Ok thanks for that but the 4813 and the 2836 are both asian and both have highbeat! Thoughts on which is better I'm not going for a 'true' ETA 2836....

Just to confuse you even more, there is also a 2892 movement, which is high beat...

If I recall the 4813 is the movement that has the dreaded choppy start up. You will have to wind the crown a bit to get it started after setting the time. Not a huge deal, but if it is not your daily beater it could become a pain in the butt :iph:

I'm not a B&R expert so I can't tell you if one has a more correct case vs. the other, but of those movement choices the 2836 clone is a very tested and reliable movement. Easy to service and cheap to replace. All things being equal, that's the way I would go.

I like the second hand sweep of the 2892 ...... Haven't seen this in a B&R rep, though ...

Price is also a consideration, how much of a premium are you paying between the movements. The dodgy start up doesn't sound good though.

Can one buy a 2836 movement? I might replace my quartz movement with one of those...

Yes - but you will also have to buy hands, crown, crown tube, and movement holders. You may also need a new dial and case. Most people don't recommend this mod - it's often cheaper to just buy a new watch.

Well, we're not talking about the same watch here, either...I have on 01-94 chronograph. I still would like to change the quartz movement for an automatic. I just figured it would be 'plug and play'. Now it sounds more like 'plug and pray'! Didn't mean to hijack the thread...I will start my own...

I always go with the ETA clone route. I trust the design and I know how to transplant them. The replacement parts are readily available as are a new ETA. The highbeat 4813-2 is probably reliable but they are rare as hens teeth to come by. Otto Frei's is the lowbeat, I ordered it and was disappointed. :(

Switching from ETA to DG to Quartz is not a smart idea IMO. The hand sizes are different and the movements are varying in size.

The 4813 is a high beat 21j, the 2836 is an ETA clone. I'd go for the 2836.

LOL this was before I got my latest job hence the lack of movement knowledge.... I still loved B&R back here but literally there were a billion movements! Now I know swiss clone every time....

And this time not a movement holder polishing, right? ;)
