I like this one better: LINK

The crown guards are better, the helium valve is better located, and it costs less.

However, she is NOT an RWI trusted dealer. She is on another rep forum though.

I believe I checked with Mary at Watch-international last week and she mentioned that they were out of stock for the SMP...

Yeah...

For the record, based on what I have been seeing, I have to agree with Five Of Clubs. Mary's SMP is one of the more accurate and better SMP project watches out there.

Silix (a TD) also stocks the SMP. Aside from the printed Omega logo on the clasp, its a good rep as well.

You can try this one as well: http://www.replicamake88.com/products/OMG02010-SEAMASTER-PROFESIONAL-300M-SWISS-ETA-2824-BLUE.html
It has the correct red seamaster wording, more accurate pearl and correct He-valve position. The problems are the bezel insert alignment, crown guard and the Omega logo.

this link is not a trusted seller but for the sake of identifying pictures, how do these look?

I'll look into Silix
It looks similar to the one from watch-international, but I'll suggest stick to trusted dealers from watch forums.

Yes, they are. The crown guards on the RM SMP look more like the gen SMP chrono or SMP GMT crown guards. The gen SMP looks different. On the other hand, many of the 21J (less expensive) versions have the correct crown guards if you can live with the movement.

I have two 21J movements gathering dust after 'autopsy' i rather have a cheapy movement than an ETA that i'll feel guilty not finding a home for.

i have a couple 1120 movements and i dont want to pay another 700 for the complete case from Ofrei.

I dont think you'll ever be able to mod and get "correct" or "accurate" fitment with 21j models. For starters you would have to swap the movement with clone or swiss if your even thinking about using the accurate hands on your project.

The most accurate rep imo is the SMP some factory use to make 5 or 6 years ago. I dont know much about the history other than some new factories are making them now a days. This model was NOT 100% (no rep is), but it was pretty GOOD.

Here's docdoowop's (fellow member who I just purchased the watch from) link when he had one of the "old school" models up for sale:

http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/...ster-smp-71492?t=71492&highlight=school+omega

Once it arrives i'll throw some photos up. docdoowop shipped it a few days ago.

Note: it only came in a Swiss ETA at the time...

By-Tor also has a brief write-up about a good SMP here (different from docdoowop's). This SMP is no longer available either:

http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php/tors-guide-best-omega-replicas-770

These old models are impossible to find, but if you can get your hands on one, jump on it right away.

Nice! Cheers! This is really good info. Right now I'm debating whether or not to just bite the bullet and buy the entire 2254.50 case from Ofrei... http://www.ofrei.com/page1182.html#19277

I basically just need the case to put the rest of my 2254.50 and 42mm PO parts together but I'm starting to realize that 'cutting corners' is going to cost more in the long run. Sigh.

Ironically I have a case thats really good but I can't get the gal darn bezel off!! Argh! i think its glued on or something...

This looks pretty good but then I'm spending another $300 (already bought a Blue Bond SMP for $100) for just the case because all the other parts are getting stripped off. Logic has me leaning toward Ofrei :(

I wish I can trade in my gens and parts for one Liquid Metal Planet Ocean :D

Well I have both mary's and lay's (red lettering). I must say Lay's has a much more expensive feel and look then mary's. (crystal and wave pattern are really nice)

The biggest problem is indeed the crown guards.
I really like to mod those, but can't seem to find a tutorial about removing the tube?

This might be helpful: http://jholbrook.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=review&action=display&thread=20558

Also, If you're going to tinker, I would suggest picking this up:[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Watchmaking-George-Daniels/dp/0856677043/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1306676921&sr=8-1"]Amazon.com: Watchmaking (9780856677045): George Daniels: Books@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51U0RjFJAHL.@@AMEPARAM@@51U0RjFJAHL[/ame] you wont regret it.

I replaced the crown, tube and stem on my UPO with gen parts. That was quite a feat at the time. Make sure you have the right tools!

Looks like a good book. Will order! But I can get everything out of the watch. Except the tube. Can I just push is out en re-glue it?

Sure, before I bought a tool I used a screw extractor from Ace Hardware. The extractor has reverse flutes so when you screw it in counterclockwise it grabs the tube allowing you to torque it out of the case. You'll have to use waterproof epoxy to re-glue it.

bon chance!

Below is one solution to the crownguard problem. A dremel will take them right off!
