SMP Chrono Pearl Question

I have two SMP Chronos. Both have some sort of protective layer on the peaarl of the lume. Do all of them have this? The photos I have seen appear not to have this solid clear protective layer. Can some one confirm. I wqas hoping to remove so I can have a "well" to put the lume in. But so far I can't remove it.

I guess you are talking about the crystal on top of the "pearl" . Since there is no real pearl the purpose of the crystal is to protect the lume mixture.
