Slipping when winding

I have a noob v4 pam 111. When I wind it manually it gets to a point where something slips or release in the movement.

It almost seems like whatever keeps the spring wound is releasing from the pressure of the spring as it is wound.

I read about the set screw being loose, but mine is good and the crown is working correctly.

The kicker is I have already sent this back once to be fixed for the same issue.

Any thoughts?

Most likely one of these parts are loose or damaged.

Thanks for everyone's feedback.

Yes it does make a noise like a buzz or whirl.

It does still have power reserve. My guess is the spring tension is overcoming some mechanism in the watch and causes it to release.

I opened the back.and check and tighetend the screws. The mechanism that locks the big gear when you wind is working and when I hear the release noise the big gear does not move.

I know it is something with the mainspring or something that holds the tension as it is wound.

thats exactly what i was thinking , the mainspring is slipping in the barrel .....lack of braking grease would be my guess , or a damaged mainspring ...

After you wind it does it keep the wind and run normally or does it completely loose the wind reserve? Does it feel like a skip as you wind, does it happen more than once as you wind the watch? I have noticed on some 6497 movements where the winding and sliding pinion slip.

Yes it keeps the wind. It only seems to slip once the spring tension hits a certain point. It then slips and releases some of the tension. I can then wind it more but it will slip as the tension builds again.

Could be a couple of things, what I said about the pinions, bad mainspring, loose click screw. From my experience since it is a new watch, I would look closer into the pinions. If it was the click you would easily see it miss though the display caseback. Mainspring would be a long shot, and most likely not your problem.

Need to take it apart and look at it with a 10 x loupe. That's the only way to know for sure what's wrong with it. I don't like guessing games lets get this thing under a loupe.

Tjat same thing happened to the 390 i got. At first i thought it was slippage on the barrel or ratchet wheel. Iaftwr i replaced both issue did not go away. I had to replace the 2 gears in the crown and stem. After replacing both the watch winds properly without ant slipping.

Hi guys sorry to bump an old thread, i'm new to panerai world and just want to seek advice from you guys regarding the pam 111 crown and winding.

1) Is it normal that my crown is wobbly and kinda loose when i release the lock?
2) When the crown guard lever is locked and the crown still able to turn it, is it a faulty lever?
3) When i wind my watch, it has the kick back resistance motion and if i didn't hold it firm it will turn anti clockwise backwards once, is it faulty or just reached the maximum wind?

1, some wobbling is normal.
2, that's normal, but not recommended as you will wear down the rubber gasket.
3, when does this occur? The 6497 will hit resistance when fully wound, otherwise there should be no kickback.

It's okay to bump a thread, but your questions have completely nothing to do with the topic other than being about the same model, which could have been any thread. Next out of context post, I will just delete it.

Now to answer your questions:
1) It's not normal (well of course it is loose so that you can freely move the crown, but not to the point that the crown wobbles, if you are referring to movement perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the crown).
2) It's not faulty. The lever is only to push the crown on the inner gasket for water resistance purposes. It's not to prevent the crown from turning.
3) It has reached the maximum point of winding.

If it's kicking back the watch should be fully wound. Is the watch not running? Give it a few whacks on the side.

When i received the watch it was not running, when i started winding it, it moved and every turn i did it kicked back, im going to share the videos here soon :D its processing now. This is my first time handling Panerai watch, so i just want to be sure and learn more ^^

Here are the two videos @mysterio

1) The wobbly crown i mentioned

2) Winding kick back (i really don't know is it normal or not, please take a look)

1st video, that is a very wobbly crown. I doubt that's the wobble that @teddy875 would call normal.

2nd video, it's normal that the crown would kick back. That means (normally) that the spring is fully wound and cannot be wound any further. If you insist on pushing the crown, something will break. I see that the balance wheel is moving so it means the watch is running. How long until the movement stops? And when it stops, can you now wind the (terribly wobbly) crown?

:eek:hmy: i knew the crown is not right :( it can't be that wobble and loose for a crown. Is there any way to fix it or should i replace it @mysterio ? sadly with the QC pics i can't tell is the crown wobbly or not but i did ask the QC personnel to do me a favor and check the crown and movement, he didn't reply my question :( it will be hell to send it back again ~_~

For the winding matter i asked, i wound the watch 50 times and it has been running since yesterday with no gain or loss or time, i've been monitoring it with my other watch and phone time, it's the same. I'm able to wind the watch but the crown is very wobbly.
