I know some of these SFSO's come highly waterproofed, whether they're actually 1000m or not. Anyone know whether Silix SFSO comes pretty tight waterproofed???

I have seen a few inquiries regarding Silix SFSO waterproofing with zero responses. I am also interesting in knowing. :?:

Trusting the advertised depth rating on ANY rep watch is foolhardy!...They often are shipped with loose casebacks and ungreased gaskets....They cam most often be MADE somewhat water resistant, but WHY...???...If you really NEED a dive watch, get a $20.00 Casio at Wal_mart...
And as to that 1000m nonsense...I'll gladly lend you my SFSO for your next 1000m dive, but please...Let's get that life insurance policy issued with ME as the beneficiary FIRST!!... :roll: :roll: :roll:

I highly doubt anyone plans to place their life in the hands of a rep SFSO. The only reason we are posting this question is that the replica SFSO's had a reputation of being more waterproof than most reps. So this thread is merely asking if the Silix SFSO has the same capability. That's all. We did not mean to offend you. :lol:

I made my watchmaker make the pressure test (watch out of the box) and it worked out until 100m... after that, problems might arise.

Yes!! but with both the watch and the wearer!!...I haven't done any SCUBA lately, but I doubt the laws of physics have changed...
100m =330 feet...Waaaaay too deep!!!

Well it is deep but not too deep. In my job we go 299FSW surface diving on mixed gas, and we dive saturation considerably deeper than that. We have done surface dives deeper but they require a waiver from the Coast Guard. My Seikos and my Invicta Pro-diver have been there and deeper. You are right though for Scuba it is waaay to deep from a safety stand point.

@frankt: for X sakes, man, how the #*$& do you know that I'm not a super spy going on deep diving missions, but my country is too cheap to fund for a gen SFSO?!?! Answer that, smartguy?!?!

I'm just joking... lol.

Well, just asking around cuz of curiosity... I've never been diving before, other than a bathtub. Eitherway, I'd like to know if my $300 watch can survive if we were caught in a heavy rain :lol:

I'd say get some lube, open the back and the crown, lube the seals up, then tighten it all up.. put it in a glass of water and watch for bubbles.. if it survives that (which it should) you should be fine with rain, showers, romps in the hot tub and the like..

They are water proofed but i would never wear a rep in the pool. Its juust not much QA for these. MAybe when you wash your hands and splash some water on it. Thats fine. But other than that no way!!!!

no, I wouldn't wash my hands with a rep I just recieved..

when you first get your rep, first thing you should do is either get it serviced, or service it yourself. or, if not, at least tighten the caseback.. ducttape works wonders for that ;)

I have a cheap vipmariner that I've worn in the ocean and pools many of times, I've had the bezel insert come out, but not one leak.. same with my IWC ingy.. (even tho when I recieved it the factory used so much wd40 it got onto the inside of the crystal.. I was scared but I took it all apart, cleaned the oil out and got it all back together) but I've worn it in the pool with not one problem. ;)

next is to learn how to service them..
