Should I buy a rep or an homage? Stupid question?

Hey guys, I've been considering buying a PAM005M for a few weeks now and I'm sure that if I did, I'd love it. I still am toying with the idea of an homage, though, since that seems to be generally more 'acceptable' to the masses. But believe me, I have no problem with reps.

My question is this: should I buy the 005M from H-Factory, or should I buy an homage from Jackson Tse or someone else? That's another question, which homage is best?

I don't really care about anyone thinking I'm wearing a Panerai. If they asked about my 005M, I'd probably tell them it was a fake right off the bat. And maybe by buying an homage I'd avoid some potential run-ins with snobs. But then again, maybe not?

Let me know your thoughts. The Jackson Tse pieces are also quite a bit cheaper than a good rep so that's a small factor.

Been toying with the same thing. Someone can chime in but it seems you pay half the price for the same quality in a homage watch. You can get sapphire, with swan neck and super lume way less than if you buy a watch that says Panerai on the dial.

In general not the same quality, take a look at some of the latest rep watches that are being manufactured , homages just dont compare

Ive found that my rep DSSD is actually a pretty nice watch in it's own right. I probably wouldn't compare the quality to my Victorinox or Luminox watches, but those are $500+, whereas the rep was just north of $100.

I have a sub 'homage', the invicta pro diver, and I'm fairly happy with it, but again, with a Swiss movement, it's around $250.

I also don't doubt the water resistance, warranty, or qc process of the gens....

I doubt you'll hear exactly what you need to in order to decide one way or the other. I like my rep a lot.

Jackson's watches are OK. Not great but OK. They are great value and the service is better than most, at least in my experience.

If you want to build a nice homage, you can get one from DSN.

Or from Getat if you can wait a month or two to see it. Although with his lume and strap upgrades, Jackson looks to be the front runner as long as he continues to ship quickly.

You can get a really nice Radiomir homage, the Precista PRS-20, from Timefactors, too.

How are the Getat watches? I've been looking at them and they look quite nice in pictures. Also a good price (around $100). With that price I could buy a decent aftermarket strap and still have only paid what the rep would cost me.

Also, you mentioned a long wait with Getat but their website says they strive to ship things out within 72 hours except for special orders. I'd probably buy something relatively simple so that wouldn't be an issue.

I just ordered parts from him. A set of screw bars. From the day that I paid for them until they were in my hands took a month. The last time I ordered parts, same thing, and that was a year ago.

He seems like a good guy and he has a good rep. I'd hope that your watch would get shipped sooner than in three weeks' time.

If you can wait, you will likely get a watch that you will be happy with, if your experience was like mine and a whole lot of other folks.

On the other hand, Jackson has shipped his stuff to me in a couple of days.

Reps and homages both have benefits, and it is fair to say that you pay quite a lot more for a bit of engraving and some printing on the dial of a rep, but the new H- and Noobfactory stuff does seem to be really high quality (iffy movements aside lol) so I think they're worth the investment.

I love my 177M, and I want an 005, a 111, a 292...

i think the H factory owned homage anytime... So kinda of no point to get homage.

My suggestion, get the H factory 005 and wear it for a while and if you find the PAM logo on it to be too much for your liking, just order a new sterile dial for it from Jackson ;)

Much harder the other way around, the H factory PAM´s got outstanding attention to details and my 177 is extremely good I´d say, got a new strap from Paneray.

Pic´s below got rep strap (sucks... get it on rubber strap/ till you decide what strap you want ;) )

Go with the rep instead of a pure homage unless you plan for a custom build or similar :)
