SH4130 stopping at the same time every 12 hours

I have a new ZF 116500 with an SH4130 movement which was purchased from InTime. It has a strange issue where it gets stuck at 12:27 every 12 hours. When the watch is worn or fully wound, it doesn't tend to happen. But if I leave it in my watch box, I'll always come back to it having stopped at 12:27.

When adjusting the time via the crown, I can feel some friction at this point when rotating the minutes hand clockwise past the point, but not when rotating the minutes hand counterclockwise past the point. I'm stumped as to what could be going on.

If it's an easy fix, I have some tools and could try tackling it. Does anybody have any thoughts?

Intime has also offered to have me send back the watch, or to find a local watchmaker. I've messaged a few of them but haven't heard back yet.

Happened to me with a different watch and a different movement.
But maybe it can help.

In my case, it was the second hands the was touching the minute hands, thus stopping the watch. If all hands are not horizontal they can do an upper angle only at a particular time, where the seconds hand meet every 12 hours, if that makes sense.

Hope it helps mate. Just readjust the hands and give it a go.

Hands touching was my initial thought. I took a look with a loupe and there doesn't seem to be anything touching. The hands seem level. Maybe it is just hard to see... Sounds like I might need to remove it from the case and give it a real look.

I took a look from several angles under a magnifying lamp. I really don't think it is the hands. I will try taking the movement out tomorrow, but I suspect something else is going on here.

Well, the fact that it always stops at 12:27 is extremely suspicious. It is not easy to spot through the crystal wether the hands touch or not.

and when it stops, is the small seconds hands still running?
No, it also comes to a halt. If I shake the watch a bit it'll go for another 15-30 seconds.

I agree - but it seems like the spacing between the hands remains consistent at all angles. I will have to pop the movement out tomorrow.

Maybe it gives you an idea, definitely you need to pop that case up and check

Curious to see what caused this as it is the SH movement which kinda new and no long term reliability yet reported

Hey everyone. Quick update - I opened up the watch and the hands are indeed not touching. Even with all of the hands off, I still feel friction at the same trouble point as before.

My best guess is that there is a bent tooth on the hour wheel. It's a bit beyond my depth so will probably need to send this one back.

Your choice but I'd try to find a watchmaker close by or at least near enough to minimize customs issues.

Sorry, that there seems to be no easy solution.

I might end up buying a DD4130 from AliExpress and swapping it out. What do you think a faulty SH4130 is worth? I imagine it’s got some value in parts.

Yes it's certainly not worthless. I'm sure if you put a faulty SH4130 up for sale there would be interest. E.g. I would be interested in buying it for my parts drawer.

Any estimates lol? It might be flawless aside from the hour wheel or whatever is sticking.

After resetting the hands it actually runs for a while after a windup now (50 hours so far) but once the reserve is low it will probably stick again because of the friction.

That said, I can’t imagine whatever issue it has is good for the movement long term.

if it works +50h after a fully wind, stop bothering about it. Just give it a few winds in the morning.

It will last the time it lasts, and by then another watch will have caught your fancy 😁

Agreed. If it runs through the stop it could be soft debris in the gear teeth. Maybe with usage the debris (lint / dust) will get worn down and stop being a problem. I’ve found what looked like food crumbs in a movement once (like bits of deep fried tempura batter). The workshops where these movements are assembled are not “clean rooms”.

It never surprises me what one finds in their movement. Those workers are paid by the piece and don’t care about the other things

Oops disregard. Had a few tabs open and got confused which thread I replied to.
