A few pictures from a SH4130 service

First thing that you notice when the case back is removed is the finish of the movement isn't to the same standard as the DD movement.






Bridge text is pretty poor


The factory has followed the recent trend of trying to hide the regulator arm and beat corrector.


There isn't additional shock protection (or dust cover as some call it due to it being fixed in position) on the escape wheel like the gen/DD.

You can see the block is missing on the left.


As i was taking the movement apart i noticed that even though it isn't exactly aesthetically pleasing to the eye, it feels well built.
Rebuilding the movement the bridges fell into place nicely, no complaints on the build quality for what this movement is.

Some pictures of the train wheel gears and chrono. All function well and the quality of the parts is fine.






The movement is slightly larger than the DD and it doesn't fit in my 4130 movement holder with the stem pushed in.

The movement will take a gen balance (remembered to take a picture after removing the bridge screws)


Few random comparison pictures, different factory cases, dial, hands (which are nicely finished for rep), ZF case passed the 10bar WR test.

The balance bridge looks closer to gen than the DD4130, on another hand, the chrono wheel looks terrible...

Fair summary

After the service timing results were more than acceptable. Amplitude of 275 (after 24 hours), +3s and the PR was 70 hours.

Thank you for the detailed review and time put in breaking apart, jokes aside I think it just helps a lot of us which wonder what is with this new SH4130.

- Is the movement decently lubricated in the right places out of the box, or is a service a must?
- Knowing what you know about movements, and if you did not have the ability to service this movement, would you steer clear and only buy the Dandong 4130, or would you feel confident with the SH? (Ack Flashu has given his option above, but wanted to double check )

As I mentioned above, the movement doesn’t look pretty but there are no issues with servicing or performance. The only spare parts for DD/SH are gen.

The powerrrserve is nice the dd dont get 70hours after a service do they. Only after swapping the rep for gen parts the get the 70hours.

Same as most reps - lubricated incorrectly. The chronograph had random spots of oil and the rest was dry.

Amazing review @Digital. Did you by chance happen to see if the SH movement would fit into a WG or PM (116519) type case clean/btf?

Not sure how I missed this back in December. Thanks for the excellent tear down and confirmation that the gen balance complete fits & works. And it’s nice to see that SH didn’t do anything funky/custom around the keyless works like they did on the SH3285. I suspect many SH4130 parts can be swapped with DD4130 parts which is good news for hobby watchmaker parts drawers everywhere.
