When I wound the SF 685 I bought from PolonusTM here in M2M after the first day of wear, it seemed a little "strange" to me that the winding mechanism was comparatively heavy and the watch was already fully wound after only a few turns. That's why I put the watch through a PR test this week. On Sunday at 12 noon, it started fully wound. And it ran and ran and ran until this morning at 7.45. That's an incredible 116 hours! For comparison: The Gen has a P.3000 that "only" has 72 hours.

Which movement did SF use?

Good day!

SF and ZF used a clone of P.3000, this is a unique movt. made for panerai, which is essentially a clone, but does not fully repeat the designs of gen.

Thus, the clone has two barrels and an impressive PR, while the balance wheel is in the correct position and looks similar to the GEN.
This clone had several generations of honing the quality of the scenery, you can read more about it on the PAM GUIDE.
It is also worth noting that in the latest iterations of this movement, the quality of the polishing of the bevels of the bridges and the shape of the balance wheel adjuster can sometimes differ.

Also, it should be noted that the P.5000 clone that ZF used in models like PAM510/PAM564 etc., 8 day old bettarini,in fact, it is still the same clone of the P.3000, with decorative plates added to match the appearance of the P.5000.

As a result, one factory produced a movement with two barrels, which by design, as it turned out, usually has a PR of about 5-6 days, and a certain position and diameter of the balance wheel, which distinguishes it from 6497.
As a result, SF and ZF applied this movement to 3 day P.3000 models, taking their respective models to the next level, and ZF also applied it to 8 day models.

At the moment, there are no traces of the production of this movt for a long time, and the ZF and SF models with it on board are a nice and unique addition to the collection.

This is how the 2 barrels of a P.3000/P.5000 clone connected in series give this incomparable PR:
Here is a decorative plate that turns P.3000 (allegedly 3 days) into P.5000 (allegedly 8 days):

And this is what the P.3000 looks like under such a plate:

Thanks KOT1917 , you are an ocean of knowledge. Thats very interesting. Once again, it brings tears to one's eyes to see all the things that used to be implemented at Pam-Reps in the "good old times". In comparison, today's HWF and TTF models are really cheap junk.

Just note though that once this movement dies it cannot be repaired, there’s no spares and no one knows where it came from lol, I did however manage to mount a 6497 in a p3000 clone case so there is a little light but you have to broach the hands for them to fit the 6497 as the CP is quite a bit larger.

So I pray, that it will last forever ;-)

Thank you JayBee0815 !
You are right, even with all the added complexity, these were much more valuable items in the same price range, or even cheaper.

By the way, yes, I should remind you that the models with the new P.3000 design, like in your case with the PAM685 or the engraved version of the PAM972 and the like, use a decorative plate over the classic P.3000 design. This is the reason for the fake gears and the slight sense of doubt from thin "bridges" that aren't:

Valuable note superspark69 !
The question of the interchangeability of P.3000 and A6497 is asked every couple of months, and no one tries to read your thread with PAM617 ZF (if I'm not mistaken), and asks this question every time, like the first time.
I wanted to thank you for this thread, as many people have done this swap since then, but I don't hear much about the experience of adopting hands, while in my opinion, ZF hands on some models are really much better than anything you can buy for 6497 in the public domain.
